I can't figure out how. Where do you vote?

Are you registered and signed up for the HAC survey (picked it as your fave type of music)? If so sign in and the survey should come up.

That crowd was huge!!

black jeans with white T shirt. Good look.

Yep, also nice to see a different pair of pants. ;)

I don't really care about it (so why do I know this?) but Kris has a few different pairs of jeans. He has the gray ones with the rips, and various blue ones (the ones he wore for the John Hancock concert were new, too, I think). :p

SleepinIn, I sent you a PM. Or three.

BTW, The Truth has gone up to #3 without my assistance, so far.

I ventured onto the headlines thread yesterday. Somebody called Slezak, Cantiello and Parker "nothing but cheap gossip mongers." So that made me mad. Ha. Anyhow, the ubiquitous Adam fans were talking about Brian Mansfield's review of Adam's concert, which was really a bit more of a recap, with some positive comments thrown in (I thought).

I read it, then re-read his recap of Kris's concert (which someone linked to) and I thought it made Kris look unpopular and slightly pathetic, desperate for a crowd response. Struggling. (If Brian was accurate, that was about the only concert Kris has given since the tour started where the crowd was unresponsive. Unfortunately.)

He then included Chris Sligh's comment about all the people who say negative things about Kris not understanding what his genre is. This made it seem like a lot of people say negative things about Kris. It was like Mansfield and Sligh were feeling sorry for him at the concert and talking about it.

I hated the tone of the whole thing when I read it again (side by side with the Adam article, to boot). Masfield has said worse things about Adam than he ever has about Kris, but I guess I don't get why certain journalists underevaluate Kris, as a performer. Do you think they really see less there than we do? Or are they brainwashed by the media? I mean, I don't think Mansfield would have linked to that Jon Bream atricle in the first place unless he felt it was accurate. I'm baffled.

What do you guys think? Sorry, I know this is an old subject.

Murphys has concerts, but hang around for the town's charms, too - Sacramento Recreation and Places to Visit - Sacramento, Gold Country, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco | Sacramento Bee

Not a bad review. Everyone talks about "generic songs", huh?

ETMills is having a twitter party at the moment. Haha.

ETMills I do sometimes like to be a glittery alien . . . RT @inthisinsanity Will you be sporting a plaid shirt anytime soon? Or something glittery?

I wonder myself. Maybe we're just wrong? Naaaaah. That can't be it. I think in a lot of cases they compare Kris to Adam.. and since Adam is this bigger than life personality, with lasers, dancers, costumes and makeup, and with media following him around like lost puppies - Kris just seems so lowkey in comparison.

I think Chris Sligh was being positive about Kris when he said what he said. Two different performers/singers. Chris has said he's a bigger fan of Adam's voice. These guys don't live in a vacuum clearly they've heard reviewers and singers from the finale to the tour, bash Kris for not being Adam. They also know that Idol fans (especially Kris fans) noticed that the show didn't really celebrate Kris like they did Adam. Chris and Brian has also been out to dinner together prior to Kris's show, probably the Bream review etc. came up at dinner.

This is one of the reasons I'm so happy about the opening slots on this tour. I love the headline gigs for their own reasons - longer sets, freer feel, and playing to people that know and love them. But the opening slots put them in front of large crowds of people that aren't really there to see them and don't automatically do the comparison thing with Adam. They are looking at Kris and band cold and judging them on their own merits. They are a source of new fans - so important.

Not a bad review. Everyone talks about "generic songs", huh?

I'll take it. The Fray got 'muddled sound mix'.

I hear what you're saying. I have to add, since I'm not sold on Adam, for me it's a case of: I never get why people compare Adam and Kris and find Adam better. That is actually what baffles me. Never saw it, never will see it. I don't think he's a better singer, a better performer, or has a better voice (it's "stronger, rangier" but it's not as pleasant). I don't think his personality is better, and I don't think he's as intelligent. I don't think he's more exciting or interesting. All the things people claim. Whenever I've seen him (including live) I've been very disappointed and underwhelmed. Whatever they say he is, to me, he's not.

So for people to have this "poor Kris, he's good, he's just not Adam" attitude -- that is what I don't get. I'm of the opinion that he should be glad he's not Adam, since he's better. I don't even buy the "they're so different how can you compare them?" You can compare them.

Adam has this God-given voice that he doesn't use all that interestingly or creatively. Suppose he had a voice like Kris, but he sang like Adam. Think about it. Then there's all the stagecraft that is not him. I don't think it makes him anything. It doesn't add up to much.

(These opinions are irrespective of Kris. I never really thought Adam was worth all the fuss.) I know you probably don't agree with any of this, so I just want to say I'm not being unfair or mean, in my opinion, I'm just putting down my own thoughts.

I don't mind people comparing Adam and Kris. I'm just waiting for one of these professionals to say it. Kris is better. I know that one fine day that will happen, but I'm impatient.

(Naturally, I don't want it to be about that. I'd like some reviewers to say that, but mainly I just want Kris's talents fully acknowledged. Maybe it will happen. I hope so. He deserves it.)

I agree with some of it. I think Idol fans are sometimes lost to sublties. They get caught up with certain party lines. For example.. Idol says Adam is a rock god.. therefore Adam is a rock god. Nevermind the fact that he sings pop/dance music.

But away from that Adam courts the press in a way Kris doesn't and I think that does make a difference in how the press covers him. He knows they want soundbytes and he has them ready to go.

I really do like Adam's voice though.

I just want to say I'm not being unfair or mean, in my opinion, I'm just putting down my own thoughts.

No absolutely. I get ya.

SleepinIn...thanks for responding to my rant.

Let me now answer what you originally wrote, a bit more.

I was really irked the way B. Mansfield kept harping on the crowd at Kris's concert. Lots of space. Half filled. Crowd not very responsive. Kris telling the crowd to make some noise. People not dancing a lot.

Someone on some other forum or blog told me that Idol bloggers/reporters for the bigger newspapers are obsessed with things like ticket sales, album sales, single sales, income, fans, etc. Rather than with the quality of the music, or the creativity or musicality of the performers. I guess this has to do with Idol supposedly creating instant superstars, and guaging how effective that is. I don't know.

Anyhow, just wanted to include that, before moving on.

I think Idol fans are sometimes lost to sublties. They get caught up with certain party lines. For example.. Idol says Adam is a rock god.. therefore Adam is a rock god. Nevermind the fact that he sings pop/dance music.

I think the fans are smarter than the critics. I think this stuff is lost on the critics even more than on the fans!

This is one of the reasons I'm so happy about the opening slots on this tour.

I agree. But unlike the MJ's crowd, I don't think it's going to suddenly increase album sales, or that kind of thing. It's more long-term.

I doubt opening bands gain a huge amount of real fans, but they gain positive recognition, and if they hold their own playing on the bill with a bigger act, people notice. Also, I think there's a cachet to touring with certain performers like Keith Urban and Maroon 5. It's good to be associated them.

But the opening slots put them in front of large crowds of people that aren't really there to see them and don't automatically do the comparison thing with Adam. They are looking at Kris and band cold and judging them on their own merits.

I think it's great how they get in front of large crowds that aren't there to see them. I'm not certain who actually does compare Kris and Adam except the media, and people like us on forums and blogs. I don't think the average person finds Kris inferior to Adam. I mean, I don't know, it's just that I've never heard a negative thing said about Kris by anyone since he won Idol. The only people who ever were critical were the two sisters I know who both felt Adam was robbed, and that Kris would not be able to follow him (or Danny) in the Idols concert. But even they thought Kris was good. So does the old lady I know who is the Adam fan. It only seems to be critics and extreme Adam fans who have huge problems with Kris.

I'm generalizing, but I mean, it's been a year, and I live in the USA where this show originates, and I've never really heard much bad about Kris from *actual* people. Which is nice.

I think if he does succeed, it will be in his usual way of doing it the long way 'round, sneaking up quietly on the unsuspecting world and insinuating himself until all of a sudden there he is, someone they can't deny or ignore.

Did you see the whole Adam Gold thing? I actually agree in part with some of his responses to the Glamberts, such as:

How is it possible that we live an a world in which mere men figured out how to send a man to the moon more than 40 years ago, yet it's still utterly futile to try and explain to people that it doesn't matter how good a singer's voice is if what they're singing f***ing sucks?

Oh, for sure, I'm thinking about it long term too. When I think back to the opening acts I've seen at concerts, there are some that are utterly forgetable, and then there are those that you see again and remember.. hey.. you were good. Slow for me is a good thing.

Also, I think there's a cachet to touring with certain performers like Keith Urban and Maroon 5. It's good to be associated them.

Yes! Completely agree.

It only seems to be critics and extreme Adam fans who have huge problems with Kris.

And mainly the Idol press and critics who look at Kris in terms of Idol. You won Idol therefore you should have done x, y, and z by a certain date.

I think if he does succeed, it will be in his usual way of doing it the long way 'round, sneaking up quietly on the unsuspecting world and insinuating himself until all of a sudden there he is, someone they can't deny or ignore.

Yep, I've always thought this about Kris.

Yes! (I also meant that he sums up my feelings because it's not all about the voice, it's what/how you sing. But I'll shut up about that now.)

I actually agreed with something he said in the comments.

On Idol's Opry episode, Lambert was given the task of trying his hand at a country song -- the idea being that it would give the judges insight into his range as a performer and command of genres foreign to his wheelhouse. Lambert -- incapable of rising to the challenge -- instead opted to take a stock altna-goth, modern-rock backing track, shoehorn some Cash lyrics in there and call it a cover, thus dodging the assignment and cheapening the real song by dumbing it down to his level all at the same time. Seriously, apart from the lyrics, what semblance of the original song does Lambert's retain? In what way does his rendition display any insight he may have into country music?

Think about it and you'll realize that this is why many people see American Idol as an institution that is cheapening music as an art form.

I thought it was worth calling him out in it, especially at a time when he comes to town to play country music's most hallowed stage.

I have to say this brought me back to the night in question. I remember thinking (even writing on this thread), "What will Adam do with a country song?" And then I felt he avoided the challenge. He found a version of a country song that was the most like his own style, and did that. I felt he did the same thing on Rat Pack night. While others attempted to pay homage to the style, or the songs, or singers, Adam did Feeling Good and it was like the Moulin Rouge floor show. The big lighted staircase, the silver suit, the extreme scream notes. Then on disco night he Mad-World-ized a Bee Gees song.

I've been thinking about it and Kris, Danny, Matt, and Allison all were more or less true to the spirit of the Rat Pack musical style more than Adam. And the same goes for country week and disco week (Kris's SWHFTM was done in a salsa style, but somehow it evoked the original for me).

So that stuff really annoyed me at the time. It was almost like cheating the thing. Like, who needs genre nights, when you can make everything come across in the same style? Your own limited, albeit effective, style? (I always thought this was the big reason he lost. Kris actually sang in various styles, which is what the AI winner is supposed to do. He showed versatility and musical breadth and depth. But Adam just made everything over into his own style.)

Just saying. ;)

Absolutely. Kris's creativity for me was a big, big thing.

The thing about ROF for me was that while Adam readily admitted that he borrowed the version, everyone else said it showed how good he was at rearranging songs to suit himself. Dilana annoyed the beejesus out of me but it was her version Adam did. He didn't invent it.

YouTube - Ring Of Fire - Dilana

I don't mind them skirting the genre and finding something that will fit their styles, that for me is part of the charm. I actually want them to do that. As long as it makes them sound good.. otherwise -- forgettaboutit. Kris skirted disco week very handily I have to say .. and I loved it.

also Amam Levine of Maroon 5 despairs over the state of today's pop music.

Seems these days like pop music's central thesis is more or less, "don't worry about it and drink and dance and be ****ty and stuff" yikes

I just don't like vapidity. Give me some emotion! Just some? The radio has been taken over by robots! I want singers!

I'm not delusional about what we are. But I like to try and connect as opposed to distract. I want someone to walk away feeling something.

interesting... connection you say...got just the guy for you.

Okay, the thing about Kris on disco night was that he did an original arrangement of the song, and he kept it rhythmic, or in the dance realm. That is why it was so awesome and probably why he got a standing ovation, the only one of the night, something we didn't see on TV.
Along with Heartless (though people still debate it), All She Wants To Do Is Dance, Ain't No Sunshine, it wasn't a borrowed version or arrangement. Yeah, he skirted the genre. Can't deny that! But he didn't skirt some other genres, like Rat Pack night.

A lot of Adam's best arrangements were done by other people, first. Feeling Good, Mad World, Whole Lotta Love, and that Bee Gees song I can never remember the name of. Maybe he did some more original stuff. I don't know. Anyhow he often got credit for more originality than maybe he should have.

Oh. I forgot to mention. Lee was on The View. Name a recent American Idol winner who was never invited to be on The View. (I'm keepin' score, I tell ya!) I suppose Oprah is next.

I don't really remember anyone else besides Adam (and he wasn't the winner). No Kris for sure. (bastards!)

I love this interview recap from the radio station today. How sweet is Kris? (Sweet and Deadly mwahahahahaha)

You mean Adam was not invited to be on The View? Or he was? And now -- Lee? Bitches.

I need audio of the ladybug thing. There is none, huh?

And Hedley!

Worlds are colliding!

(When the station said in the caption they were "pleasantly surprised" that Kris sounded "amazing" that bugged me, too. Can't they just say he sounded amazing? Why is Kris always "surprisingly" good, rather than just good? Ergh.)

Adam was on the View. Right around the time of the big Barbara Walters interview.

I need audio of the ladybug thing. There is none, huh?

Not yet, but apparently there will be video and audio soon-ish.

"pleasantly surprised" that Kris sounded "amazing" that bugged me, too

Heh, me too. But I'll take surprisingly good over surprisingly bad. :)

Also 7 ads today - whoot!

They added a very nice picture to that article about Kris hating to get his picture taken. Thanks for taking one for the team Kris!

Look at the comments section of the article (the original, not the one you linked to, which was updayed to include the picture). I mean, how much of this can you stand? It's laughable, but, come on, is this **** going to be the first post under any Kris Allen article for years to come, or what?

Sylvia Taylor at 9:21 AM July 12, 2010
I think it is poor reporting when writers have to mention Adam's name in an article written about Kris and suggest that Kris beat out Adam Lambert during Season 8 of American Idol. Anyone who has taken the time to research the facts knows that Kris won because of voting irregularities in Arkansas. AT&T executive Matt Jordan provided power texting lessons, gave away free AT&T phones and lent out phones to a stadium full of people at the University of Central Arkansas. These people were able to generate millions of votes while the computer labs were blocking Adam's lines. It is all in a well-researched book titled "American Idol Vote Scam" written by Kerry Kolsch.

Thanks, "Sylvia". lol

By the way, was Adam mentioned at length in the article? I don't think so. What is she talking about? I mean, it says Kris beat Adam, which was true. That's all. Oh, wait. Now I get it. This is what she objects to. Because Kris didn't really beat Adam. Silly me.

There's no real response to a post like that because a) she's nuts and b) if you believe her crap you're just as nutty.

It's cuckoo bananas that this woman is still going on about this. Like Adam is fine. Even if chickfila and AT&T actually did conspire.. Adam would still be fine. She needs another hobby -- some frogs somewhere are being neglected.

Kerry is also trying to sell her book, don't forget. She probably thought she was going to make a fortune on it, and be on Oprah and Leno. Poision dart frogs and all.

CNN has been trying to break the AT&T Chickfila conspiracy for years... there could be a momentous break in the case. And she will provide the evidence.

Red Rocks is gorgeous. What a thrill to play there.
