So what's with Mediabase? How is The Truth doing. It's not doing too well on iTunes, it's not even in the Top 200. I'd be very pissed if this song flops.

Here's the Mediabase info for The Truth:

http://addboard.mediabase.com/SongAddHistory.asp?startdate=&ob=4

(I ranked them by add date, but you can rank them the way you want by clicking on the title of the column.)

I'd say it's not doing too bad, 34 stations have added the song (but a few more must be playing it, but I don't know how to get that info on Mediabase). Not that many stations in big markets, but still some big markets are there. Two Top40 stations, one I assume is KISS in Boston. And the song is climbing on the HAC airplay chart. But unless more and more top 40 stations add the song, it's never going to be a huge success like LLWD. The Truth is still Come Back to Me #2 for me.

Mediabase hasn't been updated in a few days -- they were moving.

I think it's #36 on HAC at the moment and a Dj tweeted earlier this week

@DJLisaFoxx in the studio...looks like we are playin it!! @krisallen new song The Truth on @1043myfm -LA & @star1013 -SF tweeeps!

So that's two more stations, and it's going for pop adds on Tuesday.

Oh, it's this week? Makes sense, I thought it was last week and I was wondering what happened. I think all the adds from last week were there even if they haven't updated in a few days.

Anyway, we'll see. Still, the fact that he didn't get an iTunes boost (or barely) after the AI performance is strange. He should have gotten a bigger and more lasting boost than what he got. I know the song is new, but Ryan did say the name of the song.

These are the stations that have added it or are playing it (or have played it). I don't know how accurate it is, it's the same kind of map as was done for LLWD. (36 adds)

Radio Stations that know The Truth - Google Maps

One thing it has going for it is that it's a better song than CBTM. A few DJ's have said very positive things about it, and it's won a few of those song competitons. I have no reason to doubt that it will catch on, but I think it will have a different path than LLWD.

but Ryan did say the name of the song.

Yes, I'll give them that. They said the name of the song. That was quite a big build up they gave Kris and the song. [/sarcasm]

Tiger (aka Tiger92) sure hates Kris:

Well, that's a matter of opinion. CBTM had a very good run on the radio and it received it share of positive comments as well, it just wasn't a smash hit. I was just comparing the trajectory of CBTM and what I think will be the trajectory of The Truth. Also, they're comparable in the fact that they were not the (majority of) fans's first choice for the second single. I was not talking about the quality of the song per se. CBTM is one of my least favorite songs on DCTR, but I still like it better than The Truth.

You're entitled to your opinion.

ETA: Here's a quote from that Tiger person.

I literally don't care if TT tanks or not. It's a terrible song from a terrible singer.
IMO, the song sucks and the singer sucks even more.

What a sweetheart.

LOL. I hope so! I just thought it wasn't that clear-cut that The Truth was better than CBTM. Everyone has their own preferences with music, so objectively, it's hard to say for certain which is the best song.

Yeah, it's subjective. Besides, I really don't know much about the history of CBTM. I don't know anything about it. I thought a lot of people considered it a bad choice or a mistake, as a second single for David C. That's what I've heard, but like I said, I know very little so I don't want to get into it.

In my opinion TT is a better song than CBTM, I think it's more complex. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that some people have said TT is a great song, a lot of fans like it, and it has won some of those song challenge things. I'm not sure people necessarily feel huge disappointment that it was chosen as the second single, or think it was a really bad choice, or a mistake. (I think many people wanted other songs, that's all.) So in that way, at least, maybe it can be considered a good song. (I know you don't like it and probably never will, but I've pretty much come around on it.)

Well, that's what the uber-fans think. I don't think the general public had that reaction. It pretty much always had a great response when he played it live. The big fans just thought it didn't reprensent who David is as an artist (and most are still pissed that they didn't release a song that he had written *raises hand*) and that there were songs on his album that would have made better singles. But, the song did have a great run on the radio (it played for months, and months... and some more months, so some people must have loved it!), it just didn't sell that much and it didn't drive the sales of the album, which in my opinion is the goal of a single. So, I see CBTM as both a success and a failure. But I don't think the people in general thought it wasn't a good song. It wouldn't still play on the radio if that was the case.

Yeah, it does play on the radio a lot.

So, anyway, that map doesn't look all that different from the one for LLWD, when LLWD was a new-ish song. For some reason that makes me feel hopeful.

The other thing I wanted to say is that TT got cut by almost a minute on Idol, and there was one very jarring transition. They couldn't give him the extra 50 seconds required to sing the whole song. Now, if you think about it, they let Adam do a whole added intro to his single that isn't even on the record. They mentioned his song numerous times, they had him as a mentor. But thy made Kris cut the one moment he had.

I agree, that sucks. I watched like only three videos of the finale (wasn't interested in the rest), but I'm sure they could have found 50 seconds of stupid stuff somewhere that they could have cut so that Kris could sing the whole song.

Thank you. We're in complete agreement on that.

Oh, and I thought it was funny (not actually) how when Ryan was introducing Pants On The Ground, and he mentioned the great Idol moments, one of the three was "Adam Lambert's Mad World." I think the other two were Summertime by what's her name (Jennifer Hudson?), and something by Carrie. Another plug for Adam Lambert! He wasn't there, but he got a plug, anyway. (Not David Cook, or Kris Allen.) Mad World did not even sell as well on iTunes as Heartless.
