So this person who doesn't watch Idol and whose reaction to Kris is "Who?" somehow knows that he's called "pocket Idol" and that he makes "performance faces"? Something about that doesn't add up. Also, I even enlarged the photo but still didn't see any disinterested kid with a cello. Or was that just a joke?

Anyway, I assume you linked for the picture, which was great.

I do realize that they are not the hottest band out there at the moment.. LOL They`ve never been that.

I guess that was my point, in a nutshell. I need to borrow your nutshell, I think... Anyhow, it was when an AI article said he'd be "spending the summer touring" with them that I got kind of disappointed. I just want him to reach more than just BNL fans. Though I agree they're not the worst match.

One thing that bugged me in Worcester was this: Kris to HEADLINE at 104.5 XLO Acoustic XMas Worcester, MA | KrisAllenAddicts.com | Fan Site For American Idol Winner & Platinum Selling Artist - Kris Allen. Kris was co-headliner of the concert, yet BNL just came on and played forever, probably an hour and a half, including a few encores, like it was their concert. YouTube - mechanics hall barenaked ladies

That was fine if it had been advertised as a Barenaked Ladies concert. But since it was more like a Jingle Ball in nature, it was kind of a shock. The thing ran four hours, due to them. I didn't feel like sitting through a whole BNL concert and had no idea I was about to. I expected 8 or 9 songs, and it just went on and on. I suppose for their fans it was great, but for the rest of us...well, MJ was looking at me like "When does this thing end, anyhow?" And she ended up leaving early.

^Maybe that explains my BNL antipathy. Never really worked it out before.

I just came back from CVS. There was an American Idol magazine there, and I looked it over. I don't think they put one of these out last year. It was in the teen magazine section, and in the front of the mag there's the big 19/Freemantle logo, and the list of executive officers, etc. There's a letter at the beginning from Ceclile Frot-Coutaz, the big cheese. I just wanted to make sure it was all legit.

So in the whole magazine, there is one small picture of Kris.* The picture with Allison and Elton John. On the same page as that, there are four pictures of Adam. There are probably three or four other random pics of him in the mag, as well as an article in the "beauty" section (!), called "All About Adam", with about three more pictures. He looks bad in every picture in the magazine, but, hey, it's still publicity.

Now, I know this is volume 2 (May) of the magazine and I didn't see the first issue. So who knows? I wouldn't be surprised if the Glamberts wrote en masse to complain that there were too many pics of Kris and not enough of Adam, in that issue. But maybe that wasn't even the case.

Anyhow, one small picture of the reigning Idol, in the "Out and About" section? Identified merely as "Kris Allen." As in, "Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta pose with Elton John at his Oscar gala." Do they honestly not think his fans would expect more pictures of him? Needless to say, I didn't buy the magazine!

There's supposed to be one more volume after this.

* There are also a couple of ads for the QVC thing, but as these ads would naturally need to have pics of Kris, I didn't count them.

Hee! I wondered if you'd catch that!! :) That was my very first thought. There's no way she doesn't know Kris. But since they were being all positive and everything, I'm not going to blow their cover. You have to scroll through the pictures for the disinterested kid. He's a really cute kid, with a very big cello thing and he looks really bored. The rest of the pictures are great though. Kris is mobbed. I love that picture.

The AI magazine is useless. :) Just as a rule. I think the last issue had an article or something with Kris in it. But, yeah, Adam for sure had a bigger profile in it. I don't think they're going to change, which means for me the magazine is a total skip.

LOL - could be. If they just went on and on from your standpoint then I can see why'd you'd want them to stop. I probably would've known all the songs.. so at least I'd have been able to sing along :) Did anyone throw anything at the stage? (their fans are sort of known for that too)

No, no one threw anything. I don't remember, at least.

Adam must have wished Kris's mom a happy mother's day. Since I just saw a tweet from her, thanking him. I really hope Kris wished Adam's mom a happy mother's day, also -- because, you know, people are keeping score. (I'm sure he didn't.)

Adam had a bigger profile in the first issue, as well? That's it. I'm writing them. I've had enough. ross has had enough. In the third person.

I mean, they are ridiculous. Here they are advertising the big competition for this year...and I see no reason to vote. They don't seem to care who wins. If they don't, I don't. (There was no mention of Cook in that issue I saw, either. Hope he was in the first one.) I don't know how they decide anything. Like, Elliot Yamin and Scott MacIntyre had big pictures. There was one small pic of Daughtry. But, other than the current Idols, the most pictures seemed to be of Adam. Wearig a lot of crazy clothes, like those gloves with the big gold claws on them. I'm waiting for the article about Adam impaling himself on one of the things he wears. It's got to happen.

Does anyone really think this kind of force-feeding will work? It's so obvious.

But, he did! I don't follow Adam but I looked at his timeline and he asked Kris to give his mom a big hug for him and Kris told Adam to do the same to his mom in a tweet afterwards. Look at Kris's timeline.

Did you guys watch Slezak's interview with Siobhan? Oh boy, it's a long one. She comes across as both really likeable and endearing at times and completely exasperating at others. I both laughed and rolled my eyes multiple times.

And hey, we have duets to look forward to this week *rolls eyes again*.

I'll take your word for it. Thank God that Adam did it first, and Kris only responded. Because Adam is so much more thoughtful, don't ya know.

I'm sure you heard about the thing where someone sent Adam a copy of the anti-Kris blog post about middle-aged dancing women, or something (I didn't read this tripe), and he told his rabid followers, I mean, fans, to back off.

Did you guys see the comments here? Ugh. That is what prompted my remark.

I still have to watch Siobahn.

OMG, for a teen (and I hope to god that is a teen) buying 76 copies of Justin's CD. That is ridiculous. What a waste of money to prove you are the biggest fan. If I was her mother I don't know if I'd make her keep them or return them to the store. What would be the biggest punishment? in 2 years she'll be using them as paperwieghts.

DUETS??? *shudders* *runs and hides*

The Beatweek comments were awful. I'm glad Adam said something, but really sad that he had to. Seriously, why do adults act this way? It's bananas.

Okay, I'm on the third part of Siobhan's interview and I don't know how much more of this I can stand.

I need to take a break. Girl sure likes talking about herself.

I don't know whether you saw some of the responses to Adam's tweet someone posted...hold on.

It's so ridiculous that they tweeted him that stuff. I mean he had just told them they were stupid for being haters... so because they tweet him that, he's going to change his mind about haters? I don't think so. They just prove his point that they're stupid and that's what he's going to think as well. I don't understand how his "fans" (how he called them) can't see that they're not pleasing him when they diss Kris (or someone else), he just thinks they're stupid. Today, he told them exactly that and they're still dissing Kris. People never learn.

So, obviously, some do. not. get. it.

Anyhow...can someone explain to me -- I mean, so it makes sense -- this seeming ambivalence of 19 towards Kris (who's under contract to them)? AI winner, extremely marketable, scores big on radio, sells millions of singles, still has the most downloads of anyone in Season 8. Charming, charitable, nice to his mom. I doubt his disappointing album sales are all that's behind their lack of warmth. (And any sales issues he has they could probably help, with promotion on the show, a la Adam, or other means.)

I don't think you can actually give me any answer that makes sense. Here is the answer most people come up with: They never wanted him to win, so they resent that he won. They don't care whether he may be marketable or not, they're sore losers.

Why would they care that the "wrong" guy won, if the wrong guy ends up actually being the right guy? If he was some untalented, unattractive loser people hated, that would be different. He's like the perfect American Idol winner to represent their fanchise and allow them to market it to the world. Adam is hardly that, never was. Not only that, but Kris seems cooperative and uncomplaining, and no doubt personable and polite in all his dealings with them.

I can only guess that they're afraid Kris's success will get in the way of Adam's success. If Kris has a platinum-plus single, that makes Adam look like a loser, so Adam has to have one, too. Why would they care about this? Probably because they've gambled money up front, and they need to recoup it?

Anyway, it makes no sense to push this particular winner under the rug.

[BTW, I heard WWFM on the radio today, and it was followed by Pink's latest, and I realized Adam sings WWFM a lot like Pink. (Or, rather, P!nk.) I just don't get what his persona is, as a singer. As a performer I get it, but as a singer on the radio, he really doesn't have a personality.]

That's my guess. I think they put out a lot of money -- videos, promototion etc on Adam, so they're going to makes sure they recoup that. I don't think they have any malice towards Kris, and I do think they are doing good things for him. BUT I do think they were quite surprised by the reaction to The Truth as the next single. So even though I love the song, I'm glad it caused a major uproar. Because they need to know that Kris has fans. Kris's fans are confusing though, we tend to not react in the traditional Idol-fan way although we are Idol fans. If I was them I'd be confused too.

They can't tell by the fact that he leads season 8 in downloads that he has fans? Well, I don't know what constitutes a "fan" anyway. I think the importance of BSC fans may be overrated (by those very same people, on places like MJ's). I think what's important is how popular you are as an artist, or how popular you are potentially. Meaning, with the general population, not with rabid fans. A very different thing.

Anyway. I don't know what's real, and what's BS concocted on places like MJ's blog. Where does the "Kris doesn't have a lot of fans" myth come from? I mean, James Taylor must have millions of fans, but they probably don't act bat s--t crazy, or sell out his every concert in five minutes. Like JT, they're more laid back. They are still people who love and buy his music. Aren't most music fans like this, not like Glamberts or Claymates?

All Idol winners have a lot of fans, at least when they win and for some time after. Why don't enough people hear about Kris? Well, I just gave an example -- the AI magazine with hardly a picture of the winner. The appearance of Simon on Leno when he refers to Kris as "the winner" and not by name. The way Andrew Garcia changes up a song like Kris, and Kara attributes the tendency to Adam. The way AI decides to have Adam mentor "from the point of view of a former contestant", not Kris. Whatever. I don't think 19 doesn't know Kris has fans. I think they don't want to acknowledge it. But we won't go away.

I don't believe in the 'casual voter' concept, something that's the common wisdom on MJ's blog for explaining why Kris hasn't sold a million CDs despite his winning AI. It is absurd to think that the million-plus people who bought his single don't know the name on that single. Or that most of them aren't fans (a possible myth perpetuated on TWoP).

I don't believe you can win AI (or be the runner up) on casual votes, I think you need people who voted like I did. How else would you get in the tens of millions of votes? If people are not committed to someone, they just wouldn't care enough to vote.

But anyway, you have an interesting theory that links the behavior of the fans to the way 19 treats Kris. I'm not sure I agree, but I'll have to think about it. So what does 19 use as evidence that Adam does have fans? The number of people who post on his official website? His twitter followers? I mean, I'm not sure how they determine these things.

Too tired now, but I'll think about it.
