Well, at least that makes sense that they have a music feature. I thought it was really odd that Adam was going to be on Nightline too.

It was good to see David's - really interesting. That's a neat segment.

But the potential for something good is there.

Okay, if you say so. I think Top 12 is a little late for "potential," but I guess we'll see. :-| Only thing I can say is that if AI wasn't free, I wouldn't pay to watch it this season. And it's not good that I'm more interested in two people who were eliminated than in most of the remaining ones (by the way, Alex's and Lilly's exit interviews -- transcripts -- are up at mj's).

Martin Kerr has such a great voice. (Very few on AI this season have a voice this good.) I always liked him. As a singer, he's so asceptic, though. It's like he's in church. Not that that's the worst thing, but I don't think he had a chance to be the Idol without being able to get down and dirty (i.e., human) a little bit.

Yeah, I guess that explains it. It doesn't explain why he got to do it, but life is too short, etc.

ross, I agree with you that it's starting to be a bit late at the top 12 to start developing potential. I don't believe that those who had three bad weeks in the semis (Katie, Paige, and I'd personally throw Lacey in there) will really start to impress because they made the top 12. I still have no clue how these three girls made it through.

In season 7, when they had the same format for the semis, both Archie (with Imagine, top 20) and Cook (with Hello, top 16) had what the show calls "moments" And they ended up winner and runner up. I'm not sure I'd call a "moment" any performance we've seen until now. Crystal has been consistent and professional, but I don't believe she delivered a "moment". Big Mike's performance this week was loved by many, but hated by just as many people. I wouldn't call that a "moment" either. This season is lacking excitement big time. If no "moments" are delivered in the next two weeks, I'll start calling this season utterly depressing.

ETA: My definition of "moment" is probably not the same as Simon's. I'm talking about a performance that has everyone talking and in a positive way. Like Heartless for example. I was watching it again this week and I was like "that was exciting"!!

I thought Mike had a moment last week. (you guys didn't like it I know, but everyone at work was talking about Mike) Andrew had a moment with Straight Up. (although I liked his comment to Jim that the judges need to straight up get over his Straight up) Crystal has been excellent, but I haven't felt a big moment from her necessarily.

Are we at top 20 now? How many are left? Oh god.. too many right?

I thought Mike had a moment last week.

But, he got a lot of hate and a lot of "meh" on the boards as well (also a lot of love of course). I don't know, this wouldn't qualify as a moment to me. It would be something that is loved by almost everyone. Mike left a really really bad taste in my mouth this week, so obviously, I'm not objective.

Andrew did have a moment with Straight Up. Of course, his problem now is that he hasn't been consistent enough to prove that he's able to have another moment. I agree that the judges have to forget about Straight Up, but one real contender that has a moment on the show, has to deliver solid performances right after having that moment. Andrew hasn't been really able to do that yet.

That's a good point. Consistency has been lacking for sure.

So good!!!!

Do you think that Kris will spot Jim in his audience tonight? Jim tweeted that he was going and that he had a second row seat. I hope there are some Krim jokes!

Andrew did have a moment with Straight Up.

Guess what? I missed it! I missed most of that episode, I think. Did he do a whole song? Or was it a thirty-second clip? Some people say it wasn't that great. Just sayin.

This is where Kris was bright, as SleepinIn always points out (not just about Kris) -- song selection. The fact that Andrew has been trying to recreate his moment by doing other offbeat acoustic performances (Fall Out Boy, etc.) just shows he's not all that savvy. He's just repeating himself. Performance instincts are really important on AI. Lee's song selections have been bizarre. He doesn't get it either.

Song selection is everything. You can't re-create moments either, your right Ross that's what Andrews trying to do.

Not a whole song. Just partial.

YouTube - [HD] Andrew Garcia - Straight Up *Acoustic Version* // American Idol Hollywood Round

(similar to Adam.. *snort* oh kara)

He has to figure out what kind of artist he is. He's stuck on recreating the wheel. Sometimes all you need to do is pick a good song and sing it really well. If you do the same thing every time it gets boring fast. Especially on tv.

When I saw Kris in Worcester, his hair looked so dark, onstage. I also thought it looked darkened. I pretty much knew he didn't dye it, but on TV and on the tour it looked lighter brown. It depends what he uses on it, and the lights that are on him, I think.

BWCU: He sounds great, but - I know I've said this before -- I don't really need the backup singer (Cale, or Andrew in this case). It's okay if it's just Kris who sings.

Hair looking lighter on Idol.

Yeah, that was definitley a moment for Andrew. He was great. Now I see ehy people like him so much. Obviously he hasn't picked another song where he can let his voice soar like that.

Kara, stfu. Adam? As if!

Ha, finally just the Wavin' Flag for Haiti video (I love that song BTW). Saw that there was Pierre Lapointe singing in French. Nice touch.
