Did I say I didn't like Adam??? lol
I never said that. I like Adam. Overall. But, as a performer, ugh.
I tried to say what bugged me, but I don't always know why I react. Then
missaddicted hit the nail on the head. "Inauthentic." Thank you,
missaddicted. I wish I was as good at the English language as you. And you gave a perfect example.
I was wondering today why when Adam grabs his junk it makes me roll my eyes, but when Jacob does it, it makes me...also roll my eyes, but it isn't gross. I think it's the "acting" Adam does, the whole overdone "I'm in ecstasy" look on his face that you know he practiced in front of the mirror in his bedroom. It's just so bogus.
The only other thing I can add is that I acted most of my life, so to me it's not edgy to wear makeup or costumes. I've even had to do some less than PG things onstage. Most people don't do this in their lives, so it seems different. But I know Adam didn't invent it. Also, I've been to drag shows, and he didn't invent that either. The trouble is, to me, he acts like he invented it all, including being gay. All he invented was another way to market it.
But I think I mainly was saying he looked like crap in that show. Girl. Respect yourself! You looked like Liza on crack playing Auntie Mame in summer stock on Fire Island.
PS -- The New York Post sent a critic to Indio, California, to cover Adam's set at a casino?? Unbelievable.
But, I don't think he's really changed all that much - he was way milder on Idol of course - but I think the pre-idol Adam is pretty much this Adam. You never get the full picture of the singers on Idol anyway. I mean if left to Idol, Kris would be a shy christian minister, which is part of the picture but it doesn't account for the person as a whole.
I have to be honest, I don't really agree with this. I mean, you prove what I'm saying. There's pre- and post-Idol Adam (which are the same), and then there's Idol Adam (which is different). Adam on Idol could have been like he was pre- and post-Idol (why not?) but from his first audition, he wasn't. It was a conscious choice he made.
Kris? He never struck me as a "shy Christian minister" on Idol. He just seemed like a regular, laid back American kid, quiet but not necessarily even shy. I never got a religious, reverent vibe from him, or anything like that. But basically, he was authentic. He was who he is. Later, we got more layers. But all that he does onstage, he could do (and does do) offstage. That's one difference between him and Adam. If Adam was a badass offstage, and onstage, that would be authentic.
