lol Tolerance? Like Canadians locked away in Japanese internment camps, people like Robert Dziekansky being tasered to death because he got frustrated over not understanding English, hockey players butting into the H1N1 vaccine lines, ChRETIeN & Cronies scamming, tolerating Harpy's "governing", etc.? Yeah, we tolerate a lot of stuff. lol
Is it tolerance or is that we have been screwed so often that we have become comfortably numb?

If I believed in countries and stuff I'd say my Canadian identity is that I was born here. My education has been a Canadian one. No other country is like Canada. Right down to the variety of people shown in the demographics, Canada is distinct. We are generally a peaceful people for one thing. That alone distinguishes us from other countries like England, China, Japan, USA, Russia, Israel, Viet Nam, etc. We are a relatively northern people. That narrows the field down even more. We are fairly technologically advanced - the field narrows further. We are slightly on the liberal side of center. We are good samaritans and help people in need. And so on. We are what we are, which is a combination of all the factors I have mentioned and more. We are a specific type of mutt. :D No other people have that combination of factors. Perhaps we are mediocre, perhaps not. Do we excel in some things? I think so. We've produced some pretty fine poets, scientists, medicine people, etc. and we still have people becoming prominent.
Superficial? Hardly. Superficial would be branding us as a mixed bag of colors with nothing to distinguish one of our cultures from another. Only someone that cannot think would not be able to say what we are.
Bump!

What makes us Canadian is the myth that the summers make up for the seven or more months of winter!

That may be in your neck of the woods, Spade. In Toronto, winter lasts three months tops. In southeast of Ontario, places like Windsor and Sarnia, they tell me it really lasts only two months, January and February. They may get a bit of snow in December and March, but that is it.

"If you read my posts, I have never said that Feminists approve of pornography, I have been saying all along that they are opposed to restricting pornography."

Here you are playing word games. If someone does not object to something then they are either afraid to speak up or approve of it. If you need examples, we can go back to Hitler's Germany, up to the Gay Pride movement. Someone had to speak out, to bad you believe that those who keep silent are right and need your support.

Not necessarily. If someone does not object to something, that could be for many reasons. It may be that they don’t feel strongly about the subject. Or it may be that they may be afraid that restricting, banning something that they disapprove of may be worse than letting it be, the cure may be worse than the disease.

Thus I can imagine many Feminists feeling that if porn is restricted, that is an attack on freedom of speech and it could very well affect the Feminists. After all, when Feminists were agitating for the vote, they were helped along by freedom of speech. Also, it will restrict women’s career choices, and that strikes at the heart of Feminism. Feminists would be opposed to anything n that restricts freedom of women (even the freedom to participate in the porn industry).

Just because somebody does not object to something, that does not necessarily indicate approval.

It is a shame that the only restriction in the U.S, on porn is an age one. (Adults Only). The restrictions should be much tighter, because minors still get hold of and participate in it. I am not talking about only watching it, but creating it (the whole industry).

What does it mean, you do not care, has to mean something.

How would further restrictions help? It curbs activity but won't stop it entirely. Like anything minors aren't allowed to do.

Further restrictions will not help; it won’t even curb any activity. Porn sites will simply migrate away from USA and set up a shop elsewhere.

The fight over pornography is pretty much over, those who want to restrict porn have lost big time. First Supreme Court ruled that you cannot ban pornography. And now internet makes putting any restrictions on porn next to impossible.

It is not a coincidence that pornography is not a hot button issue in USA any more (like it used to be say, 20 years ago). Even conservatives have realized that they have lost, and they have thrown in the towel. As for Feminists (which is the reason why this discussion started), they never wanted to restrict porn in the first place, so they couldn’t care less.

Pornography is not a hot item in the U.S., it was in the late 50's then just disappeared and became sort of regulated by law. This Feminist thing was only brought up by SJP, they never made a real issue about it, they had no objection to the laws created to control it.
