Interesting Broadcast

I am surprised that the public affairs channel in the United States would air our leaders' debate; I was under the impression that the Governmental landscape in Canada was not of any particular interest to a majority of citizens of the United States.

Too bad I missed that; I looked for it but I guess not hard enough. My dh listened to it on the internet, though, and kept me informed. What were your general impressions? It sounded as though Harper made himself sound very good, and Martin not so much ( though Martin had a great quote: something to the effect of: " America is our neighbor, not our nation").

I am not surprised at all...

CSPAN airs the British Parliamentary hearings when there is something controversial - it is why I get up early to see Tony Blair in all his oratorial splendor.

We have watched the CBC with Mainsbridge falling alseep at the wheel, the Canadian Paliament in its bi-lingual necessaries which become boring after a while, and of course the election in Canada will be covered on CSPAN.

Actually there are three CSPANS..... and they are very interested in keeping up with Canada and Canadians and have been for as long as I can remember.

There's nothing odd about getting American channels, the reverse should be accomplished where Americans can receive Canadian news as well. There are so many Canadians living in the U.S. someone should offer them their own news on a regular basis.

CSPAN television schedules can be found on their website.

Thanks for posting this, Wednesday's Child. We flirted with the idea of getting Canadian satellite, which isn't exactly illegal but not exactly legal to get in the US. In the end, we decided not to, because we'd have to supply a Canadian address (which the satellite company would provide for us), and since we are in the middle of applying for PR in Canada, we decided not to take the risk. Probably we are being paranoid. Anyway, it's great to know that we can find a bit of Canadian politics on US TV; I'll watch now for interesting programs on CSPAN. Thanks again!

And that would go a very long way on getting Canadian issues to Americans, softwood lumber anyone?

This is good news for me ...

I didn't realize Canadians weren't aware of CSPAN's coverage - they use the day/nite hours when the legislature isn't working to cover other countries (especially those who are up and working while we are all snoozing)....and there are other interviews from notables around the countries...

Regarding Election Nite - I don't know for certain but I have seen one or two elections broadcast on that channel - whether they do it live or not I can't remember. They show their schedule well in advance however to prepare you.

My fav as you probably have guessed is Tony Blair and all the grizzlers in the background actually yelling. I was so shocked the first time I saw it, I expected a day-old crumpet to come flying down and land on Blaire's head haha... One day I'm certain to hear "Off with his head!" :p

Best thing to do is check their website and become familiar with their television broadcasts...I think they are all in Eastern Time, U.S.A. because they broadcast from Washington D.C. but I agree there should be some Canadian News on a regular basis, especially for ex-pats living in the U.S.

I am waiting in anticipation for some day when Peter M. falls asleep broadcasting the pm news haha.... he has to be the lowest key anchor person (anchored?) I have ever watched...

I'm surprised your media doesn't transmit anything down here.

Like what, the CBC? Nobody watches that thing in Canada! Why would they in America?

Why not, I'd like to catch a few things on the CBC and any other channel from Canada.

I love watching the CBC; we look forward to it every time we visit your wonderful country. I don't know why so many Canadians are down on it; we always learn so much and find the international news refreshing. Occasionally we can catch a bit of news between hockey games on HNIC, which is always great for us ( we have to subscribe to Center Ice for HNIC, of course). Canadian TV isn't shown here because, quite frankly, the vast majority of Americans don't give a *darn* about anything that happens outside of our own borders. I'd be surprised if most Americans even know where Canada is, nevermind know any of the provinces. My own sister thought Nova Scotia is part of the US, and my fitness instructor the other day thought my Roots Canada Athletics T shirt said Root Canal. Good god!

Here in Southern Louisiana, we get Montreal TV, Canadien Radio Galaxie et French Keyboard setups, No wonder, we were exiled from Acadie in 1755, almost time to go back home.

Living in Baja Acadie is another experience in the Deep US South, We are more Qubecois than cou rouge, go figure.

Time to annex the lost province.
