What percentage of Canadian oil is sold to the US, 99%? Why would the US want to take over Canada? First, the GOP would have 10 (or at least 9) provinces voting Democrat during national elections so good-bye GOP majority. The Democrats wouldn't do it because, well, come on, they're Democrats. They ain't the manliest party around, if you know what I mean. I'm also sure America is just dying to have the Quebec issue on its hands, not to mention all the provincial complaining that goes on in Canada. I mean, could you really see the Americans at a federal-provincial conference?

People, Canadian oil and gas accounts for 7% of all America's energy needs. Canada is important but lets keep things in perspective. Natural gas exports to the US are falling but oil exports will probably rise as the tar sands come on line, and thus the total percentage of US energy imports from Canada will rise slightly over time. But all the oil is in Alberta, so rather than invading Canada, we'll just invite Alberta to join the union. Of course, they'll say yes and that will be that.

I think it would make more sense to invade Mexico, wouldn't it? They have higher oil reserves and the weather is warmer.

RE: Canada's Oil Reserves

What difference does it make who you sell it to? As long as you get paid for it. Right?

Just like they still have yet to pay BC Hydro for all the electricity we sold California a couple years back when they had rolling blackouts. The US does not play fair on any trade deal, we have the victories to back that up.

If you don't pay your electric bill, your utility company will turn off the power. Turn off the switch on California if they owe you money.

Our right wing premier has no balls to do this.

Then vote the bastard OUT and get someone with balls. That is how businesses are run, someone doesn't pay the bills, you cut them off, watch how they pay you then.

Just a gentle reminder that the tarsands and oil resources in Alberta, or any other province, for that matter, belong to the province.

And you didn't really think Klein was in New York just to ring the exchange bell, did you?

Nope, Klein was in New York for private "meetings". It should be noted that he was wearing knee pads.

Well, I hear the Rangers are looking for a really good right winger. 8)

Like I said before, at least Klein is trying to do something positive for our economy, which is more than can be said for Martin, Chretien, et al. Heres hoping he succeeds.

He's doomed to failure, Blue. He's pushing policies that don't work and that people don't like. I'm sure he'll get his graft and kickbacks, but that isn't success.

So now you allege that Klein is getting kickbacks and graft? I know you support the Libs and NDP, but just because they are in the trough up to their ears, don't assume all politicians are. What policies don't work, pray tell?
The ones that got the province debt free?
or the ones that give the province surpluses?
or the ones that give Albertans the lower personal income tax in Canada?
or the ones that make a sales tax unnecessary?
or the ones that give Alberta students the highest marks in Canada in most subjects, science being the most recent one?

Yup, really bad policies, those.  8)

It must be the policies that gave Alberta the best healthcare system in Canada.

Alberta invests so much more into schools than the rest of Canada. I've never heard of anyone from Alberta finding it hard to find funding to go to university. Yet if you go to anywhere else university is considered to be a "risk" or a "gamble" as opposed to being an investment.

The fact that Alberta has been capable of providing a large surplus and a positive future for the youth and the old shows that its policies have a staying power. How they are implemented at the Federal level would be completely different, but the ideas are the same.

Agreed that implementing provincial policies at the federal level would be different, but in my opinion, the CPC policies are taken from the Alberta policies, at least as a framework which has proven to be successful. I have two kids in post secondary education, and neither had a problem other than the damn paper work! And they both had to get student loans.

Anyone who seriously looks at the CPC policies realizes that the fearmongering is unfounded, followed by an obvious question: What are the fearmongers so afraid of, given that the CPC policies will do none of the negative things they are saying? Perhaps it is fear of being proven wrong? Perhaps it is the fear of being taken out of the trough food chain? There must be a reason.
