Canada PM Justin Trudeau goes ‘desi’ during temple visit in Toronto

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended the 10th anniversary of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto, and hailed the temple as an architectural masterpiece and a place for communal harmony.

Looking dapper in a traditional blue Indian kurta and pajama, complete with a flower garland around his neck, the Prime Minister immersed himself in the rituals and celebrations.

The celebrations were also attended by former ministry of external affairs (MEA) spokesperson and current Indian ambassador to Canada, Vikas Swarup.

Mahant Swami Maharaj received a key to the city of Toronto from mayor John Tory during the event on Saturday evening.

“I am honoured to recognise his Holiness’ global and Toronto-based humanitarian, charitable, and community-building efforts through BAPS Charities Canada. His Holiness’ great contributions have enriched Toronto,” Tory said in a statement.

Canada made good money off arms and the Cold War under Diefenbaker, Pearson and Trudeau the elder.

Arms were once one of the mainstay manufacturing gigs for ON and QC that flosshole thinks might come back.

Over the past five years our commitment to Canadian industry has resulted in more than $450m in industrial benefits.

What’s more, 91% of those Canadian companies are small and medium-sized enterprises, and our global footprint means that Canadian technologies and products are being incorporated into our global supply chain. For example, WR Davis Engineering in Ottawa, Rolls-Royce in Ontario and L-3 in Montreal have all begun work on delivering high-technology systems for Type 26.
Manufacturing.

On land we have collaborated for many years with Soucy International in Drummondville, Quebec, on the rubber tracks used on our BV-series, M113 and CV90 vehicles. Ontario and New Brunswick-based DEW Engineering has led the M113 armoured personnel carrier sustainment program since 1996, carrying out repair and overhaul, technical services and logistics support for this BAE Systems vehicle. In the air domain, CAE uses our Hawk fast jet training aircraft for the NATO Flight Training operation at Cold Lake, Alberta.

As part of BAE Systems’ involvement on F-35 manufacture Canadian companies are benefitting. We have transferred advanced assembly techniques, composite manufacturing, machining capabilities, quality standards, engineering methodologies and tooling and assembly technology to support Magellan and Avcorp in producing key aerostructures. Magellan manufactures F-35 CTOL horizontal tail assemblies and Avcorp is the single source for the foldable outboard wing on the carrier version of F-35.

Broader collaboration

Our technological know-how is also helping high-tech Canadian civil businesses develop. For instance, among our collaborations is one with Instream Energy Systems of Vancouver, which develops and installs advanced hydro-electric power generation systems which do not require expensive dams or diversions.
