Well, I am surprised all the same. The USA has been, by far and away, the most dominant nation in basketball since, well, forever.
It always deflates their game ball when they find out that there really isn't any free lunch... That and 'the gravy train' isn't a real life train with cars filled to the brim with actual gravy.

Well it is the PAN AM games and not the Olympics nor the WNBA. Looking at the roster there does not seem to be the well known players on it. Although they did have a couple of girls who play for UCONN (and Canada had one who plays on UCONN) and UCONN has the best women's hoop team in the whole NCAA.
Oops, missed your question before - here's what happened: the WNBA is playing its summer season and the best players did not go off to play in the Pan Am games - instead, the USA team had many college, not pro players - had this been the Olympics the pro players would have been given time off and won.

Not much into sports anymore but when I use to watch the Winter or Summer Olympics I always rooted for my country, Canada and England.
