Forget it Curio. He just doesn't get it.

Tried he gets it - he just want's to rant about it. Trouble is nobody can make it better or satisfactory for him.

For any of us to walk in Mickey's shoes.... I wonder if we wouldn't be railing at any handy topic which might garner some support..... as usual the U.S. is the bad dog.

I think Mikey needs to take some time off and write some nice stuff worthy of his abilities to write beautiful prose..... snuggle up with your purring furball for a bit...
love coming forever from that little creature...

This anger vented isn't going to solve a damn thing Mikey....

It's your choice - share some good feelings or share the hurt.

Get this.

You can happily sit in a bubble of isolationist thinking while the world around you gets on with living.

You don't need to visit other nations, you don't need to acknowledge that other nations even exist for that matter.

But this might leave you wondering why there are planeloads of dead bodies coming back from those imaginary places you don't need to acknowledge or understand.

Nice talking with you.

I'm disappointed Curiosity but of course I have no legitimate claim to an expectation that your world has room enough for concepts with which you disagree.

I can acknowledge and try to understand without physically visiting. If I choose to. And someone is not less of a person if they choose NOT to, so long as it doesnt inspire negative repercussion. I can believe the war in Iraq is wrong without great knowledge of the culture. I can believe our servicemembers need to come home without study on the history of war in the area. I can care about the welfare of a military person without being able to write an essay on every place they've been stationed.

Oh god Mikey read y ourself... you sound like a bad Bronte novel....

Good lord man - none of us here are responsible for the nation in which we live - you blame the U.S. for so many things.

It is imperative as a good Canadian that you caste aspersion on the U.S.? Why ? I what the hell does it have to do with any of us here?

Personalize it - I think you are just needing to have a bitch and y ou'll get plenty of takers if you start flaming the U.S.

Go for it..... I'm not gonna ruin a nice day after having a great lunch with my sister-in-law and am now up to my knees in mea culpa's yet again for someone's next rage against the U.S.

I'll move on - I hope your clouds pass soon and you are back with us in comfort.

Why should the US pay much attention to us? We have a small economy, we have a small army, we have a small population, and our Natural Governing Party has small minds. We are friendly and harmless. We are the neighbour that is waved to and say good morning to but never asked our name.

Don't sweat it.

"We don't have to pay any attention to anything that's happening in the world because America has it all."

That kind of statement says it all.
Close your eyes, stuff your ears, shut your mouth and make sure your minds does not wander outside of your backyard.
That's what I call an open mind.
How miserable !

Who are you quoting? I must have missed the original quote since it seems to me this quote is completely out of context to your reply.

Saskatchewan eh!
I'm glad the USA is ignoring us up here in Canada. We wouldn't want too many US Americans finding out about this great land we have up here and ruining it for us.

Stay down there in your own little world, please.

Don't be too harsh on Americans. Some of the states have a lot to offer.
I've been fortunate enough to travel the 49 continental states, and some of things I've seen really impressed me. (Never been to Hawaii)
Although I would never tell anyone to go and visit say Iowa or Nebraska , I loved Alaska, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, South Carolina and a few other states.

Do the majority of people travel far across the world? If you went to Tuscany I am sure you would find a great deal of people who had never travelled outside their home region and are suspicious of other regions even within their own country; are they ever called xenophobic or insular? The US is a massive country that one may travel within a great distance getting from here to there and in a lifetime of travel never see it all. I would like to get the chance to see all of Canada and I certainly am not xenophobic or insular. If I am able to ever spend endless hours contemplating Machu Pichu or riding camels and sharing coffee with Beduins I would be surprised. My sister travels to the Caribean every year- she could be called "well travelled" but show no real interest in the culture of other people apart from the warmth of their weather in the winter.

The US takes notice of Mexico mainly because of the illegal immigrants streaming across the border. The relationship between the US and Canada is very smooth by comparison. The US should take note of the fact that there does not exist on the northern border the same stream from Canada as from Mexico. Canada, if we care to improve our profile, in the US should engage in a advertising campaign educating the US of our country and the relationship between us. Or, if we really don't care about what the US thinks, we should not worry about it and we should enjoy our peaceful northern bliss.

Yeah, Mexicans are definitely not insular!

And if a relative is murdered while visiting Canada, our police will actually make a genuine effort to investigate the crime and bring the perp to justice!
