More than 230,000 Canadians sign petition to revoke Musk’s citizenship

More than 230,000 Canadians have signed a petition asking the country’s prime minister to revoke Elon Musk’s citizenship and passport, accusing the tech billionaire and Trump ally of joining a “foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty” and engaging in “activities that go against the national interest of Canada.”

Musk, who was born in South Africa and holds Canadian and U.S. citizenship, is playing a particularly prominent role in the second Trump administration. He oversees the U.S. DOGE Service – which has fired thousands of government employees in recent weeks as it looks to cut spending – and has continued to support President Donald Trump as Trump calls for Canada to become the 51st state and pushes for high tariffs on the United States’ northern neighbour.

Responding to the petition, Musk wrote on social media, “Canada is not a real country.”

As Musk seeks global political influence, he has repeatedly criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s policies and mocked the Canadian leader, while endorsing clips of Pierre Poilievre, the head of Canada’s Conservative Party.

The petition – which was sponsored by Charlie Angus, a member of Parliament and critic of Musk – also accuses him of using his “wealth and power to influence our elections” and says attempts by Musk to “attack Canadian sovereignty must be addressed.” It needed 500 signatures to gain certification for presentation in the House of Commons, the lower house of Parliament.

Experts say that while it is unlikely the petition will be successful, given tight laws on revoking Canadian citizenship, it reflects the mood in a country where people are boycotting American products, cancelling trips across the border and politicizing sporting events in response to Trump’s threats.

Last week, after Canada beat the United States in the final of the 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament, Trudeau wrote on social media: “You can’t take our country – and you can’t take our game.”

Yasmeen Abu-Laban, a professor of political science at the University of Alberta, said the Trump administration’s stance has been particularly shocking to Canadians because Canada and the United States share many ties.

“It’s like your bestie is suddenly turning on you and trying to take away your house and bank account,” she said.

But Abu-Laban also stressed that “revocation of citizenship should be seen as a serious matter,” noting how in recent times in Canada, it has primarily been discussed in relation to immigrants who have committed fraud or crimes.

Musk, a naturalized American citizen, has Canadian citizenship through his mother, Maye Musk, who is from the province of Saskatchewan. Musk lived in Canada for three years starting in 1989 and studied at Queen’s University in Ontario before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania, Canadian media has reported.

Gideon Christian, a professor of artificial intelligence and law at the University of Calgary, said any revocation of Musk’s citizenship “would need to follow the legal procedures established for all Canadian citizens.”

Irene Bloemraad, an expert on citizenship and immigration who holds the President’s Excellence Chair in Global Migration at the University of British Columbia, said the government’s ability to revoke citizenship is “very limited” and largely restricted to cases in which someone has obtained citizenship by fraud.

“Even if the petition attracts millions of signatures, the government cannot just take away a person’s Canadian citizenship,” she said.

Nevertheless, Bloemraad said, the petition reflects “many Canadians’ dismay and outrage” at Musk’s statements about Canada and his support of a president “who is denigrating Canadians, challenging Canada’s sovereignty and threatening economic harm to a country that has been a friend and ally of the United States for generations.”

This should be the clue to the TurdOWE supporter that until Canada has a decent government, the US is not going to play ball. Dump our left tilted government, and international cooperation will result. Elect another socialist government, and expect to get shit on.

Fuck the US; at this point they've proven (their current Government anyway) that they can't be trusted, won't hold to their word and don't give a damn regardless. Dumping the US would be better on our end; hell, Trump's own stupidity has pushed us to do things lately we were (again, stupidly) not doing ourselves.

Fun fact, Tax, there's nothing wrong with a "socialist" Government in Canada. Even when under Conservative Governments, we've been "socialist". And most of us would prefer that to what PP and the US have.

Don't like it? Shift your ass to the US and see how you like it there.

A top White House official has threatened to redraw the Canadian border amid Donald Trump’s ambition to turn the country in America’s “51st state”.

Peter Navarro, one of Donald Trump’s closest advisers, is pushing US negotiators to discuss reworking the border with their Canadian counterparts, The Telegraph can reveal.

“Navarro recommended revising the Canada-US border, which is just crazy and dangerous,” a source close to negotiations told The Telegraph.

Canada has now instructed its delegates to withdraw from negotiations with the US until Jameson Greer and Howard Lutnick, two incoming members of Mr Trump’s cabinet, are confirmed by the senate. Mr Greer and Mr Lutnick are viewed by Ottawa as being less extreme.

“The Canadians have told their people to hold off negotiating with the US Government until Jameson Greer and Howard Lutnick are confirmed by the Senate and in post,” the source said.

Proposals also put forward by Mr Navarro include expelling Canada from the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network, the most important intelligence-sharing network in the world. He has since denied the claim.

“My view is that we should never have to comment on any story where it’s based on unnamed sources,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

“We would never, ever jeopardize our national security, ever, with allies like Canada, ever.”

Mr Navarro, whose close relationship with Mr Trump has afforded him ease of access to the Oval Office, is “ruling the roost”, insiders say, with some staffers left feeling unable to challenge him.

“Peter Navarro is in post, and he is taking advantage of being there by himself with no one else in post to challenge his extreme positions. This will change as soon as the many other trade and economic positions are filled,” the source added.

“By default of no competition, he is temporarily ruling the roost.” the source added.

Mr Trump has repeatedly said Canada should become the 51st US state. Justin Trudeau, nicknamed Governor Trudeau by Mr Trump, has said his country would never join America.

Mr Trump is now seeking control of the Keystone XL Pipeline, the $9bn pipeline that would bring 830,000 barrels per day of oil from Canada’s Western tar sands to US refiners.

First proposed in 2008, the pipeline was pulled after former president Joe Biden revoked a key permit needed for a US stretch of the project.

Mr Trudeau, who has previously promoted the oil conduit between his country and the US, said he had given up on the project.

But the president wants to revive the project, promising “easy approvals” to ensure oil would flow to the US.

“The company building the Keystone XL Pipeline that was viciously jettisoned by the incompetent Biden Administration should come back to America, and get it built - NOW!” Mr Trump said in a post on his social media network. What a fucking putz…
“If not them, perhaps another Pipeline Company,” Mr Trump added. “We want the Keystone XL Pipeline built!”
Oil is the most valuable export of Canada, which is the world's fourth-largest oil exporter, pumping 4 million barrels per day (bpd) over the border to U.S. refiners. That is about 90% of Canadian oil exports already…at a steep discount to America, with even larger discounts for natural gas to America from Canada.
(YouTube & “KEYSTONE XL CONUNDRUM: Trumps tariffs make no sense when building pipeline”)

A Canadian company also lost billions when former U.S. President Joe Biden revoked permits for the Keystone XL pipeline project to the U.S. in 2021, so they’ll just jump for Trump I’m sure.

Is investing in human capital Socialism?

Human capital is the economic value of a person's skills, knowledge, and experience. It's an intangible asset that includes health, education, training, and other qualities. Human capital is believed to increase productivity and profitability.

How does human capital impact businesses and economies?

Businesses
Companies that invest in their employees' human capital are more likely to be successful and productive.

Economies
Human capital drives economic growth by enabling people to achieve their potential.

How is human capital measured?
Human Capital Index (HCI): The World Bank's annual HCI measures how well countries mobilize their citizens' human capital. The HCI also measures how much capital is lost due to lack of health and education.

Plus all that other "socialist" stuff.

Funny how, too, the people who whine a lot about "Socalism bad!" take advantage of it real quick when they need it (job loss, no job at all, etc)
