So what do you train your dogs for? What breed, mix, look are your dogs? How many? How old? How long have you been doing this kind of training? k...that's it for now...I think. lol
Search and rescue. They're Redbone Coonhound and Red Heeler mix. Two, brother and sister. Since we got them over a year ago. You're so cool, lol.

Nonsense. Its an animal, the one true constant about animals is, they are unpredictable.

I think people just don't know how to read the animal. The body of 2 leggeds or 4 leggeds doesn't lie. It can't. However, we are not always adept at reading the signs. Well some people are. They're usually exceptionally good at one or 2 species.

But kids usually suck at it.

awww you are very sweet. But I think I'm a bit of a geek...

Have your dogs had an opportunity to search and rescue yet? That's a great mix for search and rescue. Super intelligent and a super tracker. I bet there's not a crumb of food on the floor anywhere in your house. lol

I taught both my current dogs (Schnauzer mix and Westie mix) to find things by scent. I had previously trained our doby mix who was really good at it. Keeps them happy and mentally occupied. The downside is that our westie knows who has food in their pockets when we go for walks and he isn't shy about letting us all know and begging. gah. People think he's being friendly and sometimes I haven't the heart to say that he's only looking for the food you have in your pocket. Or had.

Yep! totally suck. That's why you never leave an dog alone with a child. Or you go all in and let 'em learn via the school of hard knocks. Like my parents. I was a stable girl at 12-13, played with goats with horns at 7. GOATS! We learned respect right quick. lol

Geeks are cool too.

They have long way to go before they can certify. But we're working on it.

They're bloody problem solvers. Keeping them in the yard was an issue. They found everything they could use to get over the fence. We got rid of it. They found every dip in the ground they could use to get under the fence. We filled it. Then they figured out some boards were further apart than other. We fix it. Now they've learned that they get treats if they stay in the damn yard, lol.

And yes, they are otherwise known as the bookends, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and of course, the Kirby twins.

Ya, we had to break them of that early. It would really mess with training and will end a cert test. We moved to a toy treat.

I couldn't imagine my dog, even with her fear of kids, lashing out at a child...randomly and without provokation. I agree with you. There is something unnatural about what is going on in the home now or what went on in the home if the dog hasn't always been with that owner. There is a something.
yes

It amazes me when people cannot give an animal space. I have lost my knack for dog reading since I currently do not own one. Consequently I am more cautious around my neighbour's dogs and wait for the animal to show me it is enthused about being petted.

This particular rescue cat I now own took me a bit to understand too. I have always had more "typical cats". Typical meaning they only like to be petted for so long, in a particular way, then they rake you. This one is weird for me. Totally and completely social yet not a lap cat like I am used to. She has to be a part of company...haaaaaaaaaaaas to be. She will not be ignored. She has no fear of walking into the neighbour's and making herself perfectly at home. She runs to doors and hopes to get in. She runs to strangers and checks them out. Comes when called. I can throw her over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes, give my hand as a paw perch and she will ride around quite happily that way for as long as you will hold her. But she has her quirks too and she needs allowances made to protect her from herself.

I love cats because you HAVE to respect them and work on the relationship with them. It's not a given they will like you. I was a volunteer for 10 yrs at a local (non spca) shelter. I did the trap, spay/neuter programs and feed stations for ferals. I have 2 formerly feral cats. They were trapped at 9/10weeks of age. Hellfire with claws at first.

Took about a month for them to trust me and now I couldn't imagine them biting me or scratching me. One lets me pack her around the house on my shoulder, like yours a sack of potatoes. The other hates to be picked up but will follow me around. Unfortunately they both talk non stop. One will even talk back to the tv. I have no idea what she's saying and I honestly don't think she does either. lol

I remember your work with animals. It really takes a special gift to be able to do that kind of work. It's not for me. One of my friend's is involved in the border runs from the States. They meet up with a car train and transfer the dogs at the border. They are then brought up into Ontario and transferred into foster care so they can be cleaned up, socialized and then adopted out. She has some stories to tell. Wow. I won't even go on the runs. Can't.

Cool kitties. You have cool kitties.

I have never been with a cat who is so heavily into grooming and taking people into her colony. She accepts pretty much all people...lol. She ain't fussy especially if she gets ignored.

This one I now have is my first real conversationalist. f*ck...it gets irritating sometimes... so do the sit up and begs along with the vocalizations. It's too damn cute. It's hard to ignore. If I'm on the phone, she is chatting up a storm. When i first get home from work too...it's not food she needs it being carried and chatted to.

this is weird for me...all my life I've had cats even with the dog and never come across anything like this one.

they are all unique

thanks for the work you did with those animals ♦

I wonder if the lady gave a false address due to other reasons. Perhaps she has a warrant, she was previously banned from owning a dog, or the house she really lives at is a drug house. Or perhaps it is none of those reasons and she is just a cowardly scumwad that should have stuck around to see if the kid was going to be okay. Hopefully she'll get found and then we'll all get to find out.

It's odd how people act sometimes in emergent situations and quite often they are not really terrible people. Years ago I drove a man up to the hospital who had been lying on the pub floor for a few minutes while people stepped over and around him. It didn't occur to them that the man might need help. When I got him to the hospital I found out he was diabetic and hadn't eaten all day.
