One small island off the west coast of Ireland. Three priests. One housekeeper. A bunch of nuns - and the most consistently awful weather on the planet. Welcome to the world of Father Ted!

Father Ted was British sitcom which ran for three series and 25 episodes between 1995 and 1998.

Set on the fictional Craggy Island, a remote location off Ireland's west coast, the show starred Dermot Morgan as the eponymous Father Ted Crilly, alongside fellow priests Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlon) and alcoholic Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly). Exiled on the island for various past incidents, the priests live together in the parochial house with their housekeeper Mrs. Doyle (Pauline McLynn).

The show was critically acclaimed, receiving multiple BAFTA awards.

On 28th February 1998, just 24 hours after recording the last episode of Father Ted, Dermot Morgan had a heart attack while hosting a dinner party at his home in south-west London. He was rushed to hospital but died soon afterwards.

Speed 3

With Dougal acting as Craggy Island's newest milkman, the race is on to de-active the bomb that is on board his milk float, placed there by the dastardly previous milkman Pat Mustard!

Are You All Right There, Father Ted?

The false rumours that Father Ted is a racist are not helped by a piece of dirt on Ted's window that has somehow escaped the tender attentions of Mrs Doyle!

Great British Railway Journeys - St Pancras to Westminster

On the final leg of his journey from Buxton, Derbyshire to London, former Tory MP Michael Portillo is finally in the Big Smoke:

Michael Portillo takes to the tracks with a copy of George Bradshaw's Victorian Railway Guidebook. In a series of four epic journeys, he travels the length and breadth of the country to see how the railways changed us, and what of Bradshaw's Britain remains. His journey takes him from Buxton along one of the first railway routes south to the capital, London. This time, Michael explores one of the grandest railway stations and hotels in the country: St Pancras. He rides the world's first tube line to Smithfield market and climbs up the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament to hear Big Ben chime.

Railway Walks

Julia Bradbury begins her exploration of Britain's lost rail empire in Derbyshire, the heart of the Peak District, with a walk along the popular Monsal Trail. Limestone cliffs and gorges abound, not to mention the tunnels and soaring viaducts of the Midland Railway - one of the most dramatic and unlikely main lines ever built.

Grandstand every Saturday. I miss that show.

It's hard to believe that William Roache (Ken Barlow) is still in it.
He has not graced the screen as of yet here in Canada for we are behind the live schedule.

The thing about corrie is the down to earth reality of the working class neighborhood.
The bog out back that some still use. The non glamorous hollywood look of the actors.
Then their is the tongue and cheek genius every now and then.
I recall Norris in a scene , and I bet you he did this on purpose and they changed the script for it to be actually aired.

He said he did want to eat Leaky cock soup.
a play on cock a leeky soup.

I found a ton of shows on youtube last night and was up quite late viewing them.

there was the 2000 new years special where I actually fell in love with Cropper. Roy helped to put on a street costume party out doors.

He was dressed looking sort of like from the era of Abraham Lincoln with beard and to hat and formal wear.
When asked who he was he said ,as if we should all know, he was Edmund Arkwright the guy who invented the beveled flange.
Edmund Cartwright - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

then of course the famous line from Les Battersby about Roy when asked if Roy should be in charge of the music for the 2000 new years celebration. "Cropper could not put together a sing in a choir"

the show's appeal has depth upon depth for me. not a show missed in at least the past 25 years with the invention for just that, watching corrie when not at home, the VCR, it was invented for us Corrie fans.

As for the some of the slang, well i've been more than stumped about a few over the years. I'm off for a scotch and threat and to purchase some bog rolls on the way home. I need to pick up some fish fingers for me tea.

Karl Pilkington's latest comedy travel series, The Moaning of Life, sees everybody's favourite round-headed twonk visit other countries in order to see how they face up to some of life's biggest issues with their cultures and customs. He also reassesses his life now that he has reached the age of 40, which he considers to be "middle age"

In this episode, the funny man and actor looks at how other cultures deal with marriage. Along the way he explores the concept of arranged marriage in India; attends a "pheromone party" in LA; and arranges a wedding at a Las Vegas laundromat.

My surname is Battersby. Seriously. People often take the mick. When I was in the navy I knew a guy called Duckworth.

A History of Britain is a BBC documentary series written and presented by historian Simon Schama, first transmitted in the United Kingdom from 30 September 2000.

A study of the history of the British Isles, each of the 15 episodes allows Schama to examine a particular period and tell of its events in his own style. All the programmes are of 59 minutes' duration and were broadcast over three series, ending 18 June 2002.

Series 1, Episode 4 - "Nations"

Originally broadcast on 21st October 2000 and covering 1216–1348, Simon Schama presents a profile of King Edward I, nicknamed the Hammer of the Scots and portrayed as a villainous tyrant in the 1995 film Braveheart. He established English rule over Wales, but his attempts to conquer Scotland were thwarted by the fierce resistance led by William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. As a consequence, Scotland and Wales gained a stronger sense of national identity, while Edward was forced to listen to his people's parliament

Mock the Week is a BBC topical celebrity panel game hosted, since it started in 2005, by comedian and theoretical physicist Dara Ó Briain. The game, in which the celebrity contestants, who are often comedians, mock that week's world events is influenced by improvised topical stand-up comedy, with several rounds requiring players to deliver answers on unexpected subjects on the spur of the moment. The show's theme music is "News of the World" by The Jam.

Here Dara hosts a 2011 edition of the comedy quiz, as stand-ups Milton Jones and Seann Walsh, The Thick of It's Chris Addison and Greg Davies from The Inbetweeners join panellists Hugh Dennis and Andy Parsons to offer opinions on the past week's world events.

In Great British Railway Journeys, former MP and Defence Secretary Michael Portillo travels around the British railway network - the fifth most used in the world despite Britain having the 23rd largest population in the world - referring to a Victorian guidebook written by George Bradshaw, and he describes how the destinations have changed between Victorian and modern times.

Newcastle to Chester-le-Street

Michael Portillo embarks on the next leg of his journey, travelling from Newcastle to Melton Mowbray along some of the earliest railways in England..... and, therefore, the world. He visits the first locomotive factory in the world, opened by George Stephenson, searches for the lost pit village of Marsden in South Shields, and is entertained by a comic troupe of rapping sword-dancers in Chester-le-Street, Co Durham.
