There is to be one more stat holiday effective Feb. 18 2013. Can we afford another holiday? Should it be a paid holiday? Is it likely to pull us to the brink of bankruptcy? Or is it just a simple mind ploy to try to get Christy Clark re elected?

We aren't broke in SK and have a day off in Feb. It's okay though JLM....you have a year to psych yourself up for it.

Saskatchewan is a little different, there you make hay (wheat) while the sun shines and February isn't the sunniest month.

It's always sunny in SK and we'd get by just fine without wheat. Agri is like 6th or 7th on our economic top 10.

Wheat is still good, it ensures you eat when all the other 5 or 6 industries are down.

Still not conducive to growing wheat at that time of year.
Going back on topic - BC has been talking about adding another holiday for a very long time. It's not going to hurt anyone. Places like Save On Foods only close 2 days of the year. Christmas Day and New Years Day. Malls are busy on those types of holidays so the stores make money. It's a win win for pretty much everyone. A Feb. holiday (Family Day) is common across Canada now - we are behind the times and it's a good time to have one. It neither helps nor hinders the current government.

Yes, and that long haul from new years to easter really drags, nice to 'fit' in a holiday, breaks the
time up, seems shorter then till spring.

The sun shines in February. Keeps it at a balmy -35C instead of -40C.
You had a great summer. We had a lousy one. Still, I'd rather have our clouds and warm temps. over the winter than your sunny cold days. Rain or sun, a day off in Feb. is good for that "I wish it was Spring" time.

Looks like the way things are going a person will soon just schedule the days he/she wishes to work.
