I remember some fervent NDP kooks that I knew back in the 80's who were going on and on about the fleet of "Dreadnoughts" that we were supposedly producing so that we could be imperials pig-dogs, too. They were referring to our CPFs.... Dreadnoughts... yeah, right. That was around the same time that Svend Robinson declared that Maritime Command was trying to buy a fleet of ATTACK helicopters, presumably so that we could sail all over the world attacking everybody that we could.

No, the design was changed to make new ships less flammable. The problem with the ships the Brits used in the Falklands War was that their superstructures were mostly aluminum the make them lighter. Problem was it did not resist fire as well as steel. Mind you anyone who has left an aluminum pot on the stove for too long could have told the navy that.
