Of course they have, but that's a far cry from having your former colonies in your pocket today, isn't it?

Maybe our former colonies would be in better hands in our control, you name a country previosly in British control ;outside of the dominion nations eg Canada Austrailia S Africa, without domestic and international problems.

History teaches us that the one at the top usually go down. The thing that matters to me that our kids are one of the smartest, our education kicks ass. Military? Irrelevant to me, but it would be nice to have 10-20 nukes just to ensure security.

the whole declaration of independance and the constitution was a cover up for Americas own greed even back then....
Well, that's pretty cynical. Sounds like you're still bitter over the loss of the colonies and it's affecting your judgment. You should read those documents, if you haven't already, and consider the Enlightenment values they represent, and read a few other things by people like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. In fact you might usefully read up a bit on the Enlightenment itself, it seems to have passed you by. Your cynicism is unjustifiable; America's founding fathers were quite clearly Enlightenment idealists, and their work has stood the test of time pretty well. And if you think Commonwealth nations like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, are in Britain's pockets, you must be working from century-old information.

Russia may have twice the amount of nukes Britain does, but it doesn't have the power of over 2 billion people in its commonwealth under one little old lady. Britain since the Suez canal incident has managed to fight its own wars without the backing of the USA.

Number 2 and 3 could. I dont even think it matters who is #1. Because if enough people are against you, you loose.

That. Is not true. The US could take on all other countries at once in a giant "Kill Bill"-like scene.

Yes, this is how my mind actually works.

Remember, the Canadians are America's forefathers... Considering you speak english, and recognize the flag for the country in which it represents as the product of 13 original countries, yeah that one I am refering to hate to say it but those forefathers are the Canadians.

Note: this doesn't mean pre-1776.

Britain hasn't fought it's own war since Agincourt.

Even their famous victory at Waterloo took the Prussians to bail their butts out as well as the other allies...and they were fighting French!

I think they included the entire Commonwealth during that survey, and if this think tank calculated the entire Commonwealth i'm curious in how they came up with a conclusion and solution in how these commonwealth nations were to actually cooperate with Britain nowadays.

All I can think of is a mass national self delusion that either the US or Britain is No. 1, but both countries need something like this to cling to.:-(

Of course they are counting the Canadians, the Scots, the Irish, the Australians, India, the Gurkas, Bermudians, New Zealanders and every other country they pull their manpower from.

I don't claim to be #1. I am secure in what we are.

"Americans think they're the best...Canadians know their the best"... that type of clinging?

Never heard any locals say this?

"Americans think they're the best...Canadians know their the best"
Actually, no. lol I don't care who thinks they are the best, there's always someone better (in a general sense). :D

I can agree to that.

I was just wondering if the ones who say that must be compensating as well. I've heard it here many times.
