Not sure, perhaps. Could be a cultural thing as well, someone coming from a poor nation will do these sorts of jobs for nothing and work harder at it than a Canadian would.

If someone wants to come here, work and make a better life for themselves then I don't want to stop them.

Don't get your drawers in a knot. I don't recall saying I'm offended by Asians. I'm offended by imported criminals be they Asian, Nicaraguan, Sicilian, Zimbabwean or Icelandic. All I'm suggesting is we postpone immigrants until we have a chance to sort out what we already have and get rid of the A$$holes. I don't discriminate against race- just behaviour.

Yeah, trying to get people to take more relevant courses would be ideal but I feel we will always need some sort of imigration for these types of jobs.

I like the idea of top up pay for welfare recipiants to get them working and getting back on their feet. Welfare becomes a cycle of dependency.

No, get them to do something useful. Not necessarily pick up trash. Do something useful to society. Same with unemployment.

I think that the belief by Canadians that we are owed a living just to exist is misguided; sure, we need to make sure people are looked after, but there's always something useful that needs to be done.

Just freeze immigration (which is not the same as freezing foreign adoptions) till you can figure a better way to control it. You have it easy compared to what the United States has, you have minimal immigration points to get unseen mobs into Canada. Plus no gangs of people randomly running across your border. Tighten up your port and border security.
