Nato squares up to Putin: As Russia beefs up its military might on Europe's border, the West responds with the biggest show of force since the Cold War

In the biggest military build-up in Eastern Europe since the Cold War, an armoured force including 800 British troops will be deployed to Estonia next year to face up to Russian aggression in the biggest military build-up in Eastern Europe since the Cold War, with RAF planes being dispatched to patrol Romanian airspace for the first time. The moves are designed to stop Moscow taking over or undermining its former Eastern European satellites as it has with Crimea and Ukraine.

DAILY MAIL COMMENT: Once again, UK leads the defence of Europe

By Daily Mail Comment
27 October 2016

Before the referendum, voters heard endless pious talk from Remainers about the EU’s supposedly vital role in keeping the peace in Europe.

In fact, as this paper argued, the continent owes its seven decades of relative freedom from conflict since the Second World War almost entirely to Nato.

Today, as Vladimir Putin flexes his military muscles on a scale unseen since the Cold War, this truth remains plain.

Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan and its Wildcat helicopter as it shadows the Russian Carrier Task Group in the English Channel

Indeed, it’s not the EU rallying to protect its eastern members against Russian sabre-rattling.

As in the past, the job is being done by the American-led Atlantic alliance.

And, as ever, Britain is making a contribution that puts most of our European partners to shame.

Yesterday, Defence Secretary Michael Fallon pledged to commit tanks, drones and 800 troops to Estonia, while confirming plans for the first ever deployment of RAF Typhoons to the Black Sea.

Meanwhile, the UK is almost alone in Europe in meeting the Nato target of spending 2 per cent of national income on defence.

So let nobody accuse Britain of failing to pull our weight in defence of common European values.

Unlike our soon-to-be-ex-partners, this country believes action speaks louder than words.

"Hillary Admits In Leaked Email That Clinton Donors Are Funding ISIS
In an email between Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman, John Podesta, the former first lady and secretary of state cites “Western intelligence, US intelligence and sources in the region” to accuse Qatar and Saudi Arabia of “providing clandestine financial and logistic support to ISIL [or ISIS] and other radical Sunni groups in the region.”
Citing the need to “use our diplomatic and more traditional intelligence assets,” the candidate told Podesta the current developments in the Middle East were “important to the U.S. for reasons that often differ from country to country.” In the same email, Clinton seemed to claim Turkey needed to be reassured of America’s willingness to “take serious actions,” an effort that “[could] be sustained to protect our national interests” in the region."

Around 300 civilians were killed in eleven airstrikes conducted by the US-led coalition in Syria, which Amnesty International investigated for its latest report. Amnesty says the US must come clean about the civilian toll of its fight against Islamic State....
...mnesty suspects that US Central Command (CENTCOM), which directs coalition airstrikes in Syria, “may have… carried out unlawful attacks” in Syria, failing to take necessary measures to prevent civilian killings.

“We fear the US-led coalition is significantly underestimating the harm caused to civilians in its operations in Syria,” said Lynn Maalouf, Deputy Director for Research at Amnesty International’s Beirut regional office.

Notice that Russia is moving things around their own country while the UK is moving things into foreign =countries yet they claim that Russia is the aggressor. I hope the UK didn't pay much for that piece of PR.

The US and their allies intentionally target civilians and in a number that is just a few less than a war crime and the word 'accident' is their one and only excuse each and every time. Israel in Gaza and Lebanon set the bar for what the world would accept before demanding a halt.

Washington has traditionally focused on completing combat missions with minimal US losses and paid no attention to non-American civilian casualties, political analyst Oleg Glazunov of the Moscow-based Plekhanov Russian University of Economics told Radio Sputnik. Mosul, he added, will be no exception.

Glazunov explained that the operation to free the second largest city in Iraq, home to around 1.5 million people, consists mainly of urban combat. "Military aircraft usually do not take part in urban combat since it is hard to tell ally from an enemy," he said. "But Americans couldn't care less about these things. … For Washington, there are US citizens and all the rest who present no interest to the US." Russia's operation in Syria, including Aleppo, he added, shows that Moscow is making every effort to protect civilians.

Yep, notice the ISIS numbers get smaller when Russia is involved and larger when Israel/UD/Nato countries get involved. What's up with that??

More of the same old from the US, obviously they have no shame and if they are paying for this kind of PR they are overpaying.

Russian reconnaissance means have registered a US attack drone in the area where a school in Syrua's Idlib had been bombed, the Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday.

A US' MQ-1B Predator drone has been seen in the area, the ministry's spokesman Igor Konashenkov said. No Russian aircraft entered the area over the Syrian Idlib, where the alleged strike took place, he added. Moreover, Russian UAVs have not registered any signs of the destruction of the school's roof or shell craters, Maj. Gen. Konashenkov said. A Russian drone has been sent to the area Thursday morning, he added. "According to a photo made by a Russian UAV, the school's roof is not damaged and there are no bomb craters in the area near the school. Similar imformation may be requested from our American colleagues. Russian reconnaissance means registered a US' MQ-1B Predator attack drone." Video footage published in media showing the alleged strike on the Idlib school have been fabricated, the ministry added. "Video footage published by a number of foreign media outlets of an alleged strike on the residential area of Hass [in Idlib] consists of more than 10 pieces pasted together, being shot at different times of the day."

Notice that when the US is killing civilians it classifies them as ISIS members, wow.

(in part)
Since the first days of the US-led coalition's offensive on Daesh's stronghold in Iraq, United Nations humanitarian organizations have begun sounding alarm, warning that the battle for Mosul may turn into a "displacement catastrophe."

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs' (OCHA) estimates, about one million people may flee Mosul due to the US-led coalition's operation, of which about 200,000 may be displaced during the first weeks of the offensive. The situation is described as having the potential to be "one of the worst-case scenarios," the UN News Center website signaled last week. On Wednesday, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees' (UNHCR) Representative in Iraq, Bruno Geddo revealed that the agency had registered some 10,550 displaced persons since the beginning of the coalition's advance. "We are building camps and finalizing preparations at a frantic pace, but the current capacity is still limited to around 60,000 people. So if people are displaced from the city in waves, it will be easier to manage. If 150,000 to 200,000 people are displaced at once […] it will become a humanitarian disaster," he said as quoted by the website.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-general-says-800-900-fighters-killed-mosul-090600900.html
Arbil (Iraq) (AFP) - The United States said Thursday up to 900 Islamic State group jihadists have been killed in the offensive to retake Iraq's Mosul, as camps around the city filled with fleeing civilians.
Iraqis who fled their homes expressed joy at escaping IS's brutal rule as they were given shelter and assistance, in some cases reuniting with relatives they had not seen in more than two years.
The offensive, launched on October 17, is seeing tens of thousands of Iraqi fighters advancing on Mosul from the south, east and north in a bid to retake the last major Iraqi city under IS control.
Backed with air and ground support from a US-led coalition, federal forces allied with Kurdish peshmerga fighters have taken a string of towns and villages in a cautious but steady advance.

Most likely the 900 have been evacuated to Syria to try and help in that part of the operation as it doesn't seem to be going too well. Know what I mean??

They are in Syria also, just not going as well as they would like it to. (as in the cruise missile strike that took out the Mossad/US/ Saudi HQ.

Militant groups in Syria were supplied with US-made man-portable surface-to-air missiles, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, adding that the West’s actions in Syria look like an attempt to render assistance to terrorists.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, she said during a news briefing, is aware of “militants [in Syria] receiving US-manufactured man-portable air-defense systems,” adding that “Jihadists operating in the Aleppo region continue to be supplied with arms and ammunition.”

Another example of what is not going too well for ISIS.

Still in Iraq?
Looks like they will be there for some time. Let me guess, liberation on the same day Trump takes the reins.

It will take another three months to liberate the Iraqi city of Mosul from the Daesh militants if the offensive continues progressing at the rate it is now, President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On October 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced the start of a military operation to retake Mosul from Daesh, a jihadist group outlawed in Russia and a number of other states.

"We see that they [Daesh] have hundreds of suicide bombers, they must have factories for production of explosives. This would create great danger during the assault. If everything goes well, I expect that it will be possible to liberate the city in three months at the latest," Barzani told the Bild tabloid in an interview published late on Thursday.

Say it ain't so.

According to a document distributed by Russia's permanent mission to the UN's Geneva office, the US-led coalition has attacked civilian infrastructure since October 2015, leading to mass casualties.

The document, whose title translates as "List of War Crimes by the US and its Allies in Syria" from Russian, goes on to enumerate airstrikes on hospitals and other sites across Syria that led to a growing civilian death toll.

The document says attacks on civilian infrastructure began on October 10, 2015, when a US-led coalition's strike in Aleppo destroyed a power plant. As a result of the attack, there was no electricity in the city, including in hospitals. On December 6, 2015, the coalition's warplanes struck the Syrian army's ammunition depot in the Deir ez-Zor province, killing 4 soldiers and injuring 16.

Moreover, on February 15, 2016, the coalition launched an attack on a Doctors Without Borders' hospital in Maarrat al-Nu'man in the Hama province, killing nine and injuring 26.

On July 19, an airstrike launched by the US-led coalition's warplanes in the Aleppo province killed 125 civilians and destroyed several residential buildings. Also in the Aleppo province, the coalition's attack killed 41 civilians in a village located near Manbij. Moreover, 20 civilians, including three children, died in Syria after strikes by the coalition in the Aleppo province on October 5.

On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry also sent a 'Comparative Analysis of Russia-US agreements implementation' document to the UN.

"On October 27, the Russian side has sent a 'Comparative Analysis of Russia-US agreements implementation' on Syria to the United Nations, including to be distributed among the Security Council members. The document clearly demonstrates the results of the Russian work, aimed at the peaceful Syrian settlement and the fight against international terrorism," the statement read. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier that Moscow will present a report in the United Nations Security Council on Russia's implementation of agreements with the US on Syria and on Washington's failure to abide by them to avoid speculations on the issue.

Assad has they keys to it. Didn't you get the memo?? No comment on the US drone attacking a school. Russia stated it would fire on aircraft that put it's forces or Syrian soldiers in danger. Tagging schools will be issues the ICC can deal with once ISIS is defeated. That will be a lot sooner in Syria than in Iraq where the Us is doing f*ck all again except letting ISIS escape.

Syria Rebels in Assault to Break Aleppo Siege — Naharnet
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday called for cooperation to prevent Islamic State jihadists from leaving Mosul and heading to Syria during the offensive under way to recapture the Iraqi city.
"We are interested in cooperation with our Iraqi colleagues to take measures to prevent the outflow of terrorists from Mosul with their weapons, which of course will exacerbate the situation in Syria," Lavrov said following talks in Moscow with his Iranian and Syrian counterparts Mohammad Javad Zarif and Walid Muallem.
"We will discuss this with the United States and other members of the coalition," he said.
The offensive to recapture Iraq's second city, launched on October 17 and backed by a U.S.-led coalition, is seeing tens of thousands of Iraqi troops advance on Mosul in a bid to retake the last major Iraqi city under IS control.
Russia's defense ministry last week urged the coalition not to "drive terrorists" from Iraq to Syria during the offensive, warning it of the risk of "freely roaming" IS jihadist gangs.
The United States said Thursday that up to 900 IS jihadists have been killed in the offensive so far as Iraqi forces allied with Kurdish peshmerga fighters have taken a string of towns and villages in a cautious but steady advance.
Western leaders have meanwhile accused Moscow of committing possible war crimes in the Syrian city of Aleppo through indiscriminate bombing in support of a brutal government offensive to retake the city's rebel-held east.

Let's see what is happening. Russia and Syria have stopped using jets to clear out the rebels so civilians are safe while the US stops ground operation to bomb the city where many civilians are held hostage. What a tangled web of lies you guys weave. Nobody believes your lies anymore, I thought you should know that.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US-coalition forces have continued to conduct airstrikes against Daesh tunnels and other targets, as Iraqi forces remain about six to 12 miles from the city of Mosul, the spokesman added.

"They’ve seen some tactics, techniques and procedures by Daesh that have led them to believe it’s in their interest to pause the advance in some areas to do some back-clearing and make sure their flanks and their rear are clear of Daesh," Dorrian told reporters. Dorrian said the move was not unexpected and did not represent a shift in the operation strategy. "After a couple days of refit, resupply, repositioning, I think they’ll be moving forward again," he stated. On October 17, Iraqi forces supported by Kurdish Peshmerga and US troops began the operation to retake the city of Mosul from Daesh, which has held it since June 2014.

President Vladimir Putin rejected a request from the Russian military to resume airstrikes against militants in the Syrian city of Aleppo, the Kremlin said.
Putin “considers it possible” to continue a humanitarian pause on operations in Aleppo despite a request from the general staff to resume bombing in response to attacks from terrorist groups, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday on a conference call.
The president hopes the U.S. will use the suspension of the air campaign that began on Oct. 18 to fulfill its pledge to separate moderate Syrian rebels from terrorists, Peskov said. At the same time, Russia “retains the right” to use all necessary means to support the Syrian army and “prevent provocations by terrorist groups,” he said.

Do they even work? Maybe they work just as good as the Russian Navy's cruise missiles. Iran is still sweeping up the rubble for that fiasco.

I guess they know which side of the bread the butter is on. Now that the Russian fleet is in place the battle after the ceasefire is over that should pave the way for the last push.

The Army of Conquest, including al-Nusra Front, Ahrar ash-Sham, Ajnad al-Sham, the Sham Legion and other allied radical groups, like Fatah Halab, have launched a large-scale offensive in a bid to break the government siege of eastern Aleppo at a time when the Russian Aerospace Forces have refrained from conducting airstrikes on the embattled city.

Journalist Evgeny Krutikov described what has been happening in and around Aleppo as a "bloodbath." "While the US State Department was trying to separate Islamists from 'moderate' rebels, they self-organized and went on a joint offensive," he wrote for Vzglyad. These militants, some of whom are backed by the US, "have unified command and a large arsenal of weapons, including tube artillery and multiple rocket launcher systems." Krutikov referred to the militant offensive as the largest in the last two years. The operation has ostensibly been supported by all forces opposed to Damascus.
