That's just the standard excuse that's always trotted out when the church is confronted with its past bad behaviour. It was people alright, people claiming to lead, speak and act on divine authority through direct apostolic succession from Jesus himself, and if that's not the real church then there isn't one. You try to get the church off the hook for its malfeasance by claiming it wasn't the church; I call it weaselling and I call BS on it.
Or you're barking out your rump. Holy Roman Empire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia IS NOT the RCC.The two are not one in the same. the Rites and texts are all intact in both Hebrew and Greek. Nothing has changed since the beginning.

I have never equated the RCC with the HRE, I know they're not the same thing, but they were certainly in collusion. Nothing has changed since the beginning? There's a sign of a progressive institution. And it was all superstitious nonsense from the beginning anyway.

You're still confusing politics with the people who attend, participate, conduct Mass, do charity, hang out in the K of C, bingos, seniors activities, kids activities and so on.

THAT is what the RC Church is.

People.

People without an agenda, political leaning, who have no desire to control but would rather give of themselves.

There are no revved up nutbars spewing hatred toward Muzzies, Protestants, Moonbeams, Conservative born yesterday Christians, Hindu or what have you.

No implanted idea that we have to save the Jews.

There is nobody that spews fears that Chinese and various other Commies are going have all eating tofu and pushing wheelbarrows.

It's not a white Church by any means.

The Pews are stuffed full of people of every race and culture who all do it because they obviously are getting something out of it in the here and now and they've been doing it for over 2000 years.

That is who the RC Church is.

I know you don't find the rewards of the here and now through the Church and believe we do it because of a fear of something in an after life that doesn't exist.

We both know people don't do things unless there is an instant reward and waiting for death is a long stretch so that doesn't hold up for as a reason for attendance and dedication does it?

What are we getting out of it?
