There are many mundane reasons why Benedict might have decided to resign - from health to his record. To put one's decision in the context of "instruction from a god" is self serving at best. And, demands disbelief.
anymore so than anything else you mean?

if you were god wouldn't you have told him to get hopping, it was time and just because they used to hang in there until they expired doesn't mean it should continue

I don't get why it is a big deal or any deal at all frankly that he claims god said adios....be gone now and thanks for the time...

I don't really view god that way but meh, whatever gets you through the night

Would the god(s) speak to Harper to resign? If he resigned and claimed the god(s) did, what would people think? Would they think the god(s) take Canadian politics that seriously to intervene?

Suppose the real reason Harper were to resign was he lost control of caucus or because of scandal. Then, how would his assertion the god(s) advised him be taken?

I don't know if god speaks to steve or not but it wouldn't be any weirder to me than this, actually if he said god told him to resign (please, please, please, please...lol).. being spiritual I neither believe nor discount anything about the other side...including that it may not exist..

I know people that feel that gawd healed them in an instant... and indeed they are better...they attribute it to god picking them out, I don't view it that way....but hell I can't prove that he didn't either

if the other side does exist, then perhaps what happens is only limited then by me and myl ability, maybe Benny and Steve have a different relationship with that side than I do...

Why would the gods be concerned with the affairs of Man, any man, or his politics? The church is no more, no less, a political organization - the remnants of the Roman Empire.

Because humans suffer from self importance..?

why beats me but do you find it strange that a pope would think thus, I do not...his world is god and his personal relationship with god...so he would feel led...

I question the the pope is any more than a CEO of a large corporation who make money by pretending to have a personal relationship with this so call god. But that is me. I don't expect anybody else to think the same way.

Of course they don't, Sal. They are flesh and brain as you are. not one iota different.
they are flesh and brain but Spade I have to say, my mum was and my current guy is on a much higher level/plain than I am...I do believe the level we are on in terms of spiritual evolution determines what we experience and what we understand and how deep our wisdom flows or how shallow/cruel we are...new souls being clueless, old souls far more evolved although some move faster than others so younger can be more advanced than older...

who knows how evolved benny is or even steve for that matter

'Blames' God? Hmmm. Kind of an odd way to put it when he's stating that he made a good change.

But, be honest with yourself Spade. Nothing Pope Benedict can say or do will be right in your eyes. You search this stuff out so you can exercise your sense of superiority, and stare smugly down your nose at the spiritual journeys of people you think you're above.

The Church is about God. So why dwell so long and hard on the details of it, when that very fact sets you at odds with it?

but you don't know...we are all human, I've had instances where I judged another to be way less advanced than they were...until one is in the presence of another and feels their energy or interacts with another, we can't judge, not really

and it wouldn't be about the church directly it would be about him...that is something between him and his higher power... his interpretation of being told to leave could even be wrong, doesn't mean he wasn't told to leave

That is called love! It is natural to place those we love on a higher plane. It is what makes us human.

No, it is not a sense of superiority but rather a sense of equality. We are all of equal worth.

And, all churches and religions are about their gods.

hm no it's not about emotion it's about evolution of soul... if he were spiritually less developed than me I would accept that... I know he is by his judgement of others...there is none... not like others judge...he is above it...I am not...my mum, she just knew stuff...I know stuff too...sometimes about people I have just met...I know stuff about them that I shouldn't know...or even in here someone will write something and it's like something opens, a window and I glance something about them and I know it is true because in real life when that happens it is always right...

It is never confirmed until later.... but I know...that is evolution of soul... for me...

we are all on different levels...

In other words, his conscience made him do it. That little voice of reason inside his head....

Aww your right, sorry.....
I was just jealous god talks to you and not me..
I've just lost a lot of self importance all of a sudden.

I'm humbled by the experience.

I know you are being facetious, but I will reply to this as if you are not. Everyone has the ability to "speak" with God, or with Jesus, and if you "listen" well enough, you may hear an answer.

Where did I state that God talks to me.

Have you really tried, and listened?

It doesn't "demand" anything. The fact that you don't believe in God pretty much assures that you wouldn't believe that anyone would or could talk to God.

His decision to resign comes from the fact that he hid the misdeeds of all those priests
written up in the files left on his desk over the years. The man who was in charge of
those files did nothing and the church folk had enough. As for two way discussion with
God, well a one way I can understand but two ways? If one is having God speak directly
to him he got trouble boy for sure
