My own experience here in BC is that natives don't have the training to fight fires so they're hired for 'camp duty' which is to say sitting around on a stump asking each vehicle coming into camp where they're going then sitting back and waiting for the next vehicle to arrive.

Refugees have no clue about how to fight fires and generally don't speak the language you can't hire just anyone not like the old days when I did it.

I worked at one time for the BC Forest Service (Now ministry of forests) and it was a fine organization BUT very little support from the Provincial government. Most fire season help is done using temporary hires having little or now experience. Why? Budget is totally inadequate.

My wife has family, first nations, fighting fires in bc. He was at the cache Creek fire, now he's in Williams lake.
