i love bAsebAll along with many sports. the game was full to the roof tonight, it was exciting,
and when bumgarner came in it was magic to watch him pitch again, he is awsome

the steroid era is gone, so forget it, also i see the players chewing gum now much more than that
filthy chewing tobacco.

baseball is a great sport, and anyone who thinks it is boring, just doesn't know the strategy and
all that goes into coaching and playing this game. i'm so glad i learned the game at a very young
age, and i love each and every inning, the strategy that goes into playing each inning, and the
amazing defensive plays from the players of today, who are so much more talented than they were
years ago, but that goes for all sports.

games at all levels are good to watch, amateur, pro, whatever, but the best players
in the world are at the top, and for me they are the best to watch.

i'm not interested in picking apart politics, steroids, length of games etc.,
the game is the game, the best plAyers are there, and they play hard and
they play well. the teams can do whatever they want by trading, big contracts,
etc. etc., but it is really simple, just watch the amazing performances and
appreciate all the years it took for these players to achieve that greatness.
it wasn't easy, it takes dedication, never giving up, very hArd work, mental and
physical strength.
just like hockey, i don't care how much money any of them make, doesn't change
a thing for me, they still play and play well, and i love the game.

Cricket is the epitome of all sports. It's a game for gentlemen and played by gentlemen. Nothing beats sitting on the grass on a hot summer's day in a quaint English village watching the village team playing a team from the neighbouring village in the shadow of a medieval castle whilst you partake in a picnic consisting mainly of a Ploughman's lunch and a large bottle of the local, high quality scrumpy as you listen to the beautiful, very English sound of leather on willow. It's the epitome of civilised Englishness, shielding us from the more uncouth, uncivilised places like America.

By the way, baseball is an English sport, too.

Sorry to disagree. But in addition to playing the sport I coached it for 20 years and was also a free lance sports reporter. I know the sport very well and know that it can be played in less than 2 hours just as we did in the old days.

You're kidding, of course. Obviously you haven't payed much attention to the sledging that goes on between you Brits and the Aussies in international tests:

There are an endless amount of videos showing exchanges of ''pleasantries'' between the teams. Mind you I consider myself a fan of cricket (esp of T20) so I have seen a few such incidents in the past.

I hope there isn't any sledging in snooker. :)

I once saw a snooker player on telly calling the ref a nasty name because he refused to clean a red. But other than that, it's not quite reached the levels of an Ashes Series.

The Ashes isn't normal cricket. It is, literally, a battle of life and death between two deadly international sporting rivals, in which defeat would mean ignominy and national embarrassment heaped upon you by the victor until the next series comes along. The Ashes is more than just sport.

If changing your footwear improves your performance, it's a sport.

Logging is now a sport?

Baseball is dangerous to your health. 2 weeks ago my DIL decided to use her nose instead of a glove to catch a ball. Broke in two places, several nights in hospital to stop the bleeding.
A highschool buddy has had to wear a brace on his right leg since about 19 from playing ball. Safer to be a human cannon ball.

Still, catching a ball with your nose is pretty damn impressive!

i'm sure you are right about the length of a game, i did not imply otherwise.

we also played and coached the sport of fastball for years, and always followed baseball, didn't do any
freelance reporting, wasn't interested in that side of sports.

there are ways they can shorten the games if they want to, i don't really care, i can watch and do
otherthings, leave the game and come back, or sit and watch a full game if i'm so inclined.

i will never leave the sport i love, whatever it might be because of things 'connected' to the sport,
as long as it is played at the level i expect for these great athletes, i will always watch.

why would i leave something i love to do, the actual game and/or players would have to play at a
level i do not approve of, and that will not happen, they are so talented and love to play the
game, so i will keep on enjoying their expertise.

i watched the jays all season, when they were hot and when they were not, as they still played as
best they could, but sometimes things just don't go right, and sometimes the other teams are hot,
but doesn't matter, the game is still the game, great plays are made by players on both teams, and
i appreciate that.

far too much emphasis is placed on the outcome of games, but for me it is the process, not the outcome
that comes first for me.

The game last night was quite something to see. The Giants put their chance to win entirely on the shoulders of Bumgarner. They didn't even have a guy in the bullpen until the 9th. As the pressure rose Royals batters started chasing things out of the strike zone. In the 8th and 9th innings probably half of his pitches were rising fastballs, chest high or higher. He had the batters pretty psyched out. One helluva performance.

Good, so I think baseball could easily fit in there somewhere.
