No he didn't say it directly, nor did he imply it, insinuate it, allude to it or any such thing.

Unless someone were squinting real hard and looking for something to whine about.

Maybe I just need some new specs.

But you can't seriously tell me that the guy just doesn't smack of douchiness?

I don't think your specs are the issue.

I'm not a huge fan of Baird, or Canada's position on Palestinian Statehood. But when he called out the UN, I felt a sense of pride, I haven't felt in a long time.

It was nice to see a politician speak with conviction, take a stand and call it like it is.

I'm well aware of the impression the Canadian pussification brigade, has of Canada as an international player, or military force. But if they were so inclined to educate themselves on Canada's history, both militarily, and internationally. We were once a force to be reckoned with. It's really nice to see a little of that come out in public again.

Well, he definitely doesn't speak for me nor did I feel the same sense of national elation, but I can see where you're coming from.

Thanx but I have to ask.

So you think we should sit idly by?

The UN should go on being a big toothless paper tiger?

Israel should be judged by countries that have the worst human rights records on the globe?

Countries that stockpile nuclear weapons should chair disarmament committees?

I'm not following you here.

It would probably go a long way to solving the issue in Israel and Palestine if people would stop treating the Palestinians like poor homeless victims who have to resort to suicide bombing to advance their political agenda. It's a total crock.

I can only really comment on the UN bid..

If Palestine can succeed the two necessary conditions:

1.) Proven as a peace-loving nation
2.) Voted in by 9/15 major countries with no veto from any of the permanent five.

Then they're allowed in. Those are the U.N.'s guidelines to statehood.

I can't really comment on your other questions until I have a better understanding of the organization. Please do not rush, either you or Colpy, to educate me - I'll do the research myself at some point. ;)

Condition 1 is going to be a toughy.

Yes it is, lol

But I think this is where all the UN nations can get together and discuss what that really means. As we know, western nations aren't really nations of peace either, so that might actually work in Palestine's favour.

We shall see!

Why? That didn't stop you from making stuff up about what Baird said.

I can't really comment on your other questions until I have a better understanding of the organization. Please do not rush, either you or Colpy, to educate me - I'll do the research myself at some point. ;)
But you already condemned Baird over his remarks directed at the UN. Do I need to quote you to refresh your memory?

How can you condemn him as a goon, aggressive, misrepresenting our country, irresponsible, colours us as wackos, shall I go on?

Condition 1 is going to be a toughy.
I think it should be irrelevant.

Let them have a seat, make them a recognized State today.

Tomorrow it will all be Israel.

Legally no less!!!

You didn't let me have anything. I pried it out of you.

At least you almost admitted an error though. You get a thumbs up for that.

We all make mistakes.

Best not to amplify them too much or it distracts from the real discussion.

If a Veto by one of the super 5 the General Assembly can with a plurality of votes accept the PLO but they (PLO)would have observer status - Same as the Vatican - Now they go well together.

Really? I thought they were screwed if just one of permanents dropped.

What does the Vatican contribute?

It is a separate state. Check the history.

Vatican City - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vatican City i/ˈvætɨkən ˈsɪti/, or Vatican City State,[13] in Italian officially Stato della Città del Vaticano (pronounced [ˈstaːto della t͡ʃitˈta del vatiˈkaːno]),[14] which translates literally as State of the City of the Vatican, is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome, Italy. It has an area of approximately 44 hectares (110 acres), and a population of just over 800.[6][15]

Vatican City was established in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty, signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Gasparri, on behalf of the Holy See and by Prime Minister Benito Mussolini on behalf of the Kingdom of Italy.

Sent in by Mussolini? hah.. that's rich.

I'm sure they don't get voting rights, but what do they.... do for the UN?

Still almost.

Best not to amplify them too much or it distracts from the real discussion.
Best not to make it a clear 'I was wrong', by selective wording.

Nothing much to amplify there either.

I thought the veto only worked in the Security Council.

Gawd that speech was pathetic. Lacking any kind of internal integrity. A confused mish mash of the grovelling of his boss Harper to American neoliberal imperial economic and foreign policy and promotion of homosexuality, abortion and every other pillar of New Age dissolution. What a drooling fool.. the whole agenda is a prescription for ethnic cleansing in the West Bank in support of a 'greater' Israel.. and at the hands of fascists and racists like Netanyahu. Baird doesn't have a clue about what real tyranny or real moral structure is.

I didn't even have to wait for you to bring up homosexuality and abortion, to know you didn't even read or hear the speech.

Or, your meds wore off early today.

Either or, as usual, a nice piece of intolerant trash from the resident Christian fundamentalist.

The PLO can go either route - their choice - either to the SC 1st or the General Assy. Either way the SC can veto regardless of a plurality of votes from the Gen Assy. Then they get the same status, with a Maj vote in the GA as the Vatican has.

What to watch are the 3 countries that have not announced their intentions, Nigeria, Gabon and cannot recall the other.

Also the SC can delay and delay the vote on the PLO request. It is normally 35 days but they can delay it for quite some time.
