It's funny that many of the high and mighty right wingers are the ones benefitting from cheap child care, lawn care and renovations due to the illegal immigrants that they don't want.

That's why nothing actually gets done - there's too much money to be made.
People who employ illegal aliens should be jailed.

Did he know you harbor this much resentment toward your fellow man who just want a better life. I'm guessing not or he would have capped 3 guys. :p

I can't go outside after dark. It's not funny.

Way I see this is the yanks are haves and those sneaking in are the have-nots and, as usual, the haves don't want to share.
Time for Canada to share. Canada has lots of room for the ignorant and impoverished peoples of Mexico and Central America. It would be good for the Canadians to get a dose of this medicine.

My Mexican friends all immigrated through the proper channels but I have seen Americans come without proper paperwork. One friend was deported for a year back to Nebraska until he could sort out his paperwork and come back home to his wife.

Canada deals with its own immigration issues, but I find it interesting that your knee jerk reaction is to wish 'ill' upon your neighbour because some of them disagree with you on a political issue.

Boat people were called boat people they were in boats off the coast of Vietnam. They were in refugee camps in Hong kong and Malaysia and selected to come to Canada. They do that all the time, a good way to get real refugees, not bogus economic refugees.

This reporter is out of touch. In the 1980s I could have moved to the USA, found a job, got a green card and settlled in and become American. Now it is harder for anybody to do that in most countries.

You're totally right. But, at the same time, would we be having this discussion, giving thought to what it must be like to be one of the marginalized 'illegals', if they didn't bring up the fact that they feel the discussion? Same with any of Loc's 'soft word's.

But changing the terminology doesn't change what make them feel marginalized in the first place. It's the attitude, of which we've seen plenty just in this thread alone, that causes the marginalization.

There is this extreme anti-PC vs extreme PC crowd, neither side deals with the heart of the matter. In my own experience, I've witnessed countless individuals who make the terminology the be all end all of the discussion. Which is why I'm so resistant to it, it feels like the mother of all band-aid solutions to me.

But you are right that we do need to be discussing the reasons why and where entire groups of people feel marginalized within our society, within reason of course. I would just rather see a discussion over the issue where we can address the issue and not get so wrapped up in the language. I can accept/tolerate a person using 'archaic' terminology if they are articulating themselves in a way that shows them to be thinking, reasoning people (irrespective of whether I agree with their viewpoint) over an individual who frames everything they say in 'just the right way' but offers nothing in the way of substantive thought that addresses the issues.

I'd be careful with that one. It can be dificult to know who is legal and who is not. I had a mechanic that I had known for years work for me that didn't know he was not a citizen until he went to the states on a short trip. Coming back he got checked and they decided that he was not a Canadian. Hen was born in Northern Rodesia to British parents who came to Canada in the late fifties. SOme how his older brother and sister got proper documentation but because of his age he came on his mother's passport. I suspect there are lots more like him.
