I am a retired firefighter who served in a flash flood prone area. This is a tragic loss but happens sometimes. I one a case where we lost 2 of our own tying to rescue a guy in a truck who had driven passed road closure barriers and got out into 5 ft deep rushing waters in a winter weather deluge. RIP Chief! My condolences to your family!

The worst such story that I've heard happened a few years before I was born when Hurricane Hazel hit Southern Ontario.
