Why didn't she just give up her Canadian Citizenship? Problem solved.

Probably because she would still have to resign, and then re-offer once she was an Australian only citizen.

She probably couldn't keep her position, because when she was elected, she was not legally eligible.

She thought it was revoked automatically. Only recently did she learn that that was not the case.

Sorry mates... but I would be dumping that Canadian passport faster than a hot potato...

My job comes first...

Stupid law though. Bureaucracy I tell you. A law for this and a law for that.

It's time to end Dual Citizenship.. in Australia, Canada, America.. and frankly all other nations. The granting of Canadian citizenship should be conditional on renouncing that to all other nations, including the country of origin.

The taking of another country's citizenship should nullify that to Canada. The muddling of identity and patriotism are an offshoot of the attack on the Nation State by the forces of Globalism.

There should be not tolerance of divided and competing loyalties, that reduces citizenship to a mere convenience, without implicit responsibility or loyalty.

Oddly enough, I kind of agree with you on this. Some countries allow dual citizenship, some don't, and I think it would be a good thing to drop.
