That was me. Looks like guests have been asking to post here, so it's apparently now available to them as well.

I noticed I can't go back and edit the guest post.

You've just described the profile of a good friend of mine who happens to live in Alberta. In fact he used to live around McMurray working at the camps also...Small world.

Back to the Alberta issue.... in the last provincial election the conservatives won 61 seats, and the liberals 17. The liberal party actually had what was considered a breakthrough turnout...........

I have to say that Raph Kleins campaign was fairly dull in 2004.... it seemed like he did not care because he knew he would win and that he was retiring in 2006. He did a oustanding job in his first 2 terms while taking on the defecit and tightening up the fiscal belt however in the last few years he has been mediocre....hence this is why the liberals had a good election...... I actually voted for the Alberta Alliance

....but it is my understanding that Klein will be exiting in 2006 thus opening up a position for a new fresh conservative leader to come in and take over the reins....... the conservative party in Alberta is a Iron Horse...well funded and strong as ever..........

.....contrary to what you believe Alberta has gone through many up and downs and we have always kept our governments conservative......... from 1970's to today we have had uninterrupted conservative governments.... and before that from 1930's to 1970's we had the Social Credit party which was conservative Christian party.

Can you say hypocrite?

It's pronounced "Spidercide".

Back to the Alberta issue.

Better have a look at the popular vote there, Hank. The province that likes to complain about the democratic deficit has its ridings split up so that the seats won bear little resemblance to the way the popular vote splits. That also encourages non-conservative voters to stay away from the polls because their candidates have little chance of winning.

RE: Another Alberta Messa

That they would, Hunter. Khaddafy swung a better deal for Libya when it was an absolute pariah state than Ralph swung for Alberta. Khaddafy had to take whatever he could get and Ralph could have gotten whatever he asked for.

That makes the question why Ralph chose to screw the people of Alberta. Can you say graft and kickbacks? I knew you could.

Alberta has the highest interprovincial migration in Canada...... its seems once people live here for a while they head for Alberta!

dang imagine our surplus in 5 or 10 years............

....and mrmom2 people who tend to act tough on the internet usually are the little guys....

Yes, they do have a high migration rate, but it is a temporary migration rate. A lot of my friends have gone out to work as rig pigs, made their money and then came back home to buy a house and get settled...don't quote statistics unless you quote the whole statistic

There are lots of Albertans who do not share the LOUDER views of the people in power there.
The issues of separatism, the hogging of wealth, slamming Kyoto and the the lack of reductions of emissions, etc., are not things I would get behind. I suppose that is partly why I left Alberta three years ago, because those in power kept shouting these things as if I were in agreement. Newspapers don't print our views in that province.

So we can't just say "go then". That would be abandoning the 'good people' there. Ralph's Kindom is not the real of the whole Alberta. When he leaves, and that power base erodes, Alberta will emerge again, representing ALL it's citizens again. Will it survive Ralph though, thats the question.

Perhaps as long as the oil sands are viable they will be there, shouting greedy ambitions like separation. Separation would only last for awhile, until they are equals again. So predictable is the influence of money.

Global Warming forcing emissions reductions, replacements for oil, and collapse of economy are the likely-ist ways to bring Alberta off it's high horse. Its gonna be awhile eh? [thats ok, I prefer BC in so many ways, I will stay here until the time I can go home again, when the Kindom of Ralph is over and done]

The biggest reason for people to move away from Alberta is the weather, if you moved away because you don't like the people there then you did'nt belong there in the first place and won't be missed.
Alberta last year sent to Ottawa all of it's revenue from oil and gas in tranfer payments ( about 8.7 billion ) plus an additional 900 million which by itself is more than any other province other than Ontario.
I know you guys are desperate to shit on Alberta but when I was living there in 98 and oil hit $13 a barrel they still had the strongest economy in the country, lowest unemployement rate and a surplus budget. It probably hurt the rest of the country more because Ottawa could'nt suck as much money out of Alberta.
