I don't know any single parent who has freely chosen to be a single parent. Most have had it foisted on them when the other walks out and abandons them.

It will never cease to amaze me that some have no qualms about criticizing them for someone else's actions.

Well, I have a 19 year old niece with a 1 year old son; she never finished grade 10, and has no particular desire to do anything. Her boyfriend now, he's 33, does not have a drivers license, and isn't the father of the kid.I think her ambition in life is to be a welfare mother. It's ****ing pathetic. She's not a victim, she's a volunteer.

Yes, what I got out of Anne's 10 minutes on the view was not, as Karrie would suggest, that was Anne attacking single mothers. She was more upset that women were "volunteering" for this lifestyle choice (if you can call it that).

I know several. I'll cite one case; my wife's cousin wanted kids, but living in rural Manitoba there weren't too many prospective hubbies. I don't know how she was actually, well, you know, but she took fertility drugs and ended up with triplets. Yeah, it was a nightmare for her parents, fortunately there was a very large and supportive extended family. Two have recently gotten married, one of which has just been re-deployed as a captain in the forces for his second tour in Afghanistan. Yeah, everone is pretty proud. There are some success stories.
