i know our strongest wish is for them to be found alive, but i wonder what is the point of 'whomever'

took them to keep them somewhere 'alive', what would he be waiting for, there is no ransom asked for.

he has to care for them, feed them, have a place for them to live daily lives, and that seems so far

from what is actually happening.

for me, i see him 'on the run', or 'hiding out', or 'just trying to act normal', right under the

sight of the law, as he has disposed of the bodies, and now only thinks of his own survival.

if he is travelling with them, again, he has to care for them, while hiding them in plain sight,

and without any of them tipping anyone off, and of course if one of them is injured, that makes his

daily routine very difficult, with them in tow.

if it is only the grampa who is dead, and he is moving about with the other two, why, he must be

dillusional then, unable to think straight, in a constant panic, and always threatening to kill the

remaining two, but still, they all must get through each day, bathroom, food, clothing, sanity,

something has to crack in that plan.

I don't think the guy has been arrested, he's only been taken into custody.

I think the Calgary cops are getting desperate to make an arrest, but I don't think they got a smoking gun yet!!

OOPPS yep they just made the arrest and lifted the Amber Alreat.

I'm afraid you are right, Talloola, wish it was otherwise!

Police recommend murder charges in disappearance of Calgary boy, grandparents

Calgary boy and his grandparents were murdered, police say as charges pending | National Post

Wow, how very sad...

The Calgary Police Service said they arrested a man in connection to the disappearance of Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents Alvin Cecil Liknes and Kathryn Faye Liknes, who have been missing for two weeks. Two charges of first-degree murder, in the case of the grandparents, and one charge of second-degree murder in the case of the boy are pending.

Chief Rick Hanson says he can’t identify the suspect because he has yet to appear before a justice of the peace. Hanson says their bodies have not been found, but the Amber Alert related to the case has ended.

Local media reports Douglas Garland, the man police considered a “person of interest” in the case has been arrested. Mr. Garland was never officially labelled a “suspect” in the trio’s disappearance.

Mr. Garland was out on bail for charges unrelated to the disappearance Nathan and grandparents. The three were reported missing June 30, and Mr. Garland was taken into police custody for questioning on July 4. Police released him, then arrested him on charges relating to identity theft. He was held at the Calgary Remand Centre since at least July 7.

He was released on bail on July 11, and was still considered a person of interest in the missing persons case. He was free to stay at one of four Calgary drop-in centres or a hotel or motel. There were more conditions relating to his bail, including a curfew of between 9 p.m and 6 a.m.

Police have been searching Mr. Garland’s parents’ rural property, where he lives, since at least July 4. The property is outside Airdrie, a bedroom community about 36 kilometres north of Calgary.

CALGARY — Calgary police say two charges of first-degree murder and one charge of second-degree murder are pending in the disappearance of a five-year-old boy and his grandparents.

Ironically he did, when he stated there were no other "persons of interest"!

The police need to check storage units in the Airdrie area with dogs that can smell humans.. that's where they will find the bodies..

What does one man do with 3 bodies?? Any bets..

Airdrie has an influx of new storage facilities in the area, where you can drive a camper into the back forty and forget about it..

I know, since I moved here I needed a place to store my crap I brought up from Texas... used to be 3 or 4 places... now closer to a dozen and you can leave your camper or trailer in the back forty.. away from foot traffic.

In this heat I'd question if they need dogs! If that's the case I'd stuff the bastard in there with them for a couple of days!

Until recently, police had to assume that at least one of them was being kept alive somewhere, Hanson said.

But that changed Sunday afternoon, when investigators compiled all the evidence and met with the Crown prosecutor.

Strange, this whole case

“The decision was reached that this is now a homicide investigation and charges would be appropriate against the accused individual,” Hanson said.
Police are asking the public to continue to come forward with any information about the case. Rural residents in the Airdrie area are also being asked to check their properties and notify police if they see anything suspicious.

Horrifying but not a surprise.

I guess I missed that, thought I'd been following it pretty close. Do you really think there was enough money there (yard sales generally just attract loose change) to justify killing three people? Not saying it's impossible but could only be a real sicko that would do it. Why not just stick up a bank or jewelry store and make it worth while? -:)
Because he knew the victims...this was personal.

Also to be clear, they never said it was money JLM, rather that was my response to your theory that there was no motive.

Money is in the top 5 reasons for murder...

It wasn't a yard sale it was an estate sale and they are not average people...they have money...I don't think any amount of money is reason for murder but I am not the accused, he has had mental issues right from the time he dropped out of med school and likely before that. Another reason for murder in the top 5 are drugs and mental illness...so far buddy has all three happening.

When you look at other people and analyze them you can't just project your own reasoning onto them...you go with an overview and try to figure out what motivates them...what do they need.

Date a cop, they will explain it all to you...

What's sad is that there are people in the community, could be your neighbor, co-worker that are capable of doing this to a family, to another individual..

They guy must be sick in the head.. just evil. Pure EVIL..

There are unfortunately alot of them out there.

A friend of mine went missing and turned up dead in a suitecase in Steveston. Her estranged husband killed her. Left 2 small children without parents.

I still refused to believe it and cling to that last shred of hope despite all logic.
