Roughly 76 per cent of Albertans voted in favour of staying in Canada and 24 per cent for a binding referendum, according to preliminary results from Elections Alberta, which had counted ballots from 74 per cent of voting locations by 5 a.m. MT on Tuesday.
Yes it looks like you were closer than me . I didn’t expect the remain side to get such strong turnout .

It was still between us though. You were a bit high and me a bit low.
The answers to the rest of the reference questions are going to be interesting.

Correction: It should never have been necessary.
Six days before the 1980 Quebec referendum, Prime Minister Trudeau (Senior, not Potato), who had returned to the Prime Minister’s Office only a few months earlier, took to the stage at Montreal’s now long-demolished Paul Sauvé Arena.

Mr. Trudeau warned the other provinces, on behalf of the Quebec MPs, that even if Quebeckers voted to stay in Canada, that vote could not be taken as an endorsement of the status quo. “We are … telling you in the other provinces that we will not agree to your interpreting a ‘no’ vote as an indication that everything is fine and can remain as it was before,” Mr. Trudeau said.

The vote, favourable though it was to the continuation of Canada, is not an endorsement of the status quo – and roughly one-quarter of Albertans have said they want to hold another referendum on leaving Canada. Mr. Carney mustn’t discount that, as Pierre Trudeau did not, four decades ago.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith vowed she will not be holding a formal referendum on separation as long as she is in power, while also moving forward with reforms on immigration.

In her televised address on Tuesday evening, Smith called the voter turnout for Monday’s referendum historic, thanking Albertans who cast their ballot. She said she will be honouring Albertan’s mandate and that it is time to move forward from the issue.
Smith said her government will continue to protect Alberta’s autonomy against Ottawa and will be “unrelenting” in its response. “Those disputes will be settled within the political and legal institutions of our nation rather than pursuing the option of separation,” Smith said.
