S.C. 2000, c. 26. The Clarity Act provides that “[t]he Government of Canada shall not enter into negotiations on the terms on which a province might cease to be part of Canada” if “the House of Commons determines … that a referendum question is not clear” and “unless the House of Commons determines … that there has been a clear expression of a will by a clear majority of the population of that province” to secede: ss. 1(6) and 2(4).
They are not obligated to negotiate, at all.

to clarify what the clarity act did - it established that a provincial referendum cannot determine separation.

Only Canada can do that.

Nothing forces Canada go acknowledge anything like that. Our system does not function by referendum.

We dont have to go to the Feds. It's the Crown we go after.

First we negotiate with the Indigenous setting up a very fair deal with a stake, equity and a voice.

Then we dissolve the treaties with the Crown and it's "see ya later."

a successful referendum would force Canada to consider the separation request.

Only Canada can legally bring about a separation.

Consider ... possibly reject it. There is zero obligation to accept the result of any sort of referendum.

By the way, has Stock Day changed his name to "Doris" yet?

The GG will laugh you out of her office. The Queen will tell you to take a hike because acknowledging your treachery would endanger her own United Kingdom even further.

We'd be losing a hell of a lot of work ethic if AB leaves!
That is the best reason for leaving that I have ever heard. Leave before we become an abuser. You should turn that into a motto for Canada.
Is 'Moat Builder' still a trade out West?

You figure that the Indigenous people are going to side with rootin'-tootin' armed assholes who think that it's their right to shoot injuns that wander across their ranches? You'll be lucky if you manage to convince one solitary native to side with you and lose the Protection of the Crown in favour of nothing from angry white nationalists.

That was one of the Federal Government secret weapons in the Quebec Referenda, as well. Native support of separation ran around zero and their trust of the French ran into the minuses. A seperate Quebec was going to be about a 200 mile side strip with UN mandated First Nations on all sides of them. Expect Alberta to look the same. Expect Alberta to lose some of even all of the Athabasca Sands to UN mandated First Nation control.

Well I suggest you keep describing your fellow Canadians in such a manner and understand why many want to leave Ontario Quebec in the rear view mirror .

It's not up to the Queen.

Indigenous aren't obligated to uphold the Treaties signed with the Crown.

They don't have Treaties with Canada.

It's all in their hands and a fair deal for all would seal the deal.
