I never knew that Roseanne was such an important torchbearer for the Trumptards.

Watching this go down is great theatre.

Ireland was Celtic in faith before Christianity went in there and slaughtered the Druids (the snakes that Patrick drove out of Ireland). Unfortunately, they also destroyed all traces of their religion and replaced them with Christian fairy tales.

You should read St. Patrick's Confessio, Cliffy. Or Betha Colaim Chille: Life Of Columcille by Manus O'Donnell.

Patrick was the great missionary to Ireland and established its episcopal Church. St. Columcille was the founder of the monastic life in Ireland which was a refuge for Christian theological (and Classical) texts and sacramental practice in the Dark Ages that engulfed Europe following the fall the Western Roman Empire. The latter has been in continuous print since the 16th Century; the former since Patrick dictated it in the 6th Century. All of Western Civilization is in their debt.

Folklore of fairies, leprachauns, imps, elves, dwarves and sorcerers and much of the legendary cult of the Druids are a product of the Irish literary imagination, not history. I can't see living in some kind of magical dreamscape is doing you any good at all, Cliffy. These are exacting texts but could reattach you to reality.. and Truth.

He must have been a time traveller, then, since the monastic tradition in Ireland dates from before his birth. Colmcille is best known for evangelizing Scotland from his monastery on Iona and for being the defendant in the world's first copyright lawsuit.

Patrick was a barbarian and western civilization is an oxymoron. I live in the real world, the one that all life lives in, not the debacle that passes for civilization that is hell bent on destroying the natural world.

Columcille (521-597) is credited with establishing Western Monasticism in Ireland where he founded several monasteries. He was born in County Donegal, the only county that rejected abortion in the Irish referendum.. so his influence (and perhaps his intercession) remains.

This is the Western Communal or Cenebite practice based on the Rule established by St. Benedict (480-550). It is that which formed a protective shelter for the Western intellectual tradition during the Dark Ages.

This differs from the Eremetic (Anchorite) tradition (now known as Eastern Monasticism) of the 'Fathers of the Desert' which is characterized by solitary ascetic contemplation.

St. Columba, as he is now known, travelled to Iona after his Irish mission to convert the Scotts and found an important Monastery on the island.

Yet you will gladly accept a helicopter ride to a western hospital .

"Patrick" was a Britano-Roman and Patrick, or Patricio (Patrician) was his rank in that society during the latter days of the Western Empire and not his name. He most emphatically was not a barbarian but he was a captured and enslaved citizen. He's one of the last recorded links with the great empire in Britain before everything goes "dark" during the Dark Ages. Western Civilization has collapsed before and it took over a millennium to get back to where it left off, last time around.
