D.C. Democrats Want To Force NFL’s Redskins To Change “Racist Name” To The “Redtails”…

No, they don’t have bigger problems to worry about.
Via WaPo:
A D.C. Council member is preparing to introduce a resolution calling on the Washington Redskins to change its name, perhaps to the Washington Redtails.

Council member David Grosso, an independent elected last year, said he plans to pursue his non-binding resolution because the current name is “a derogatory, racist name.”

“It’s been a long time that we’ve had this name associated with Washington, and I think its time we take a stand and change it,” Grosso said.

Grosso is circulating his resolution to other council members to try to get co-sponsors. So far, he said, council members Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4) and Kenyan McDuffie (D-Ward 5) have agreed to sign on to it.

I wonder if anyone bothered to ask aboriginals if they are bothered by the name "Washington Redskins".
PCness is rampant and abundant.
We aboriginals sued to have trademark protection of the name removed, and we're doing it again.

Senator Nighthorse Campbell spoke out against it.

Hundreds of Indian leaders and celebrities have spoken about it. The comments were uniformly negative.

Here's the only man of any stature who claims that the name honours Indians:

Like re-naming the city "Reagan, DC."

You and who else got this law suit going?

Expensive?.. I was always lead to believe that challenging gvt in court was very expensive.

The suit going well, is it?
Thousand of aboriginal people have spoken out about this for decades. Looks to me that at least one person in congress finally listened. Not surprising it wasn't a republican.

Me and a bunch of other redskins.

Fairly. Suing the government is relatively inexpensive, and suing to remove trademark protection is even more so.

The suit going well, is it?
So far, so good.

No-can-do... Too many crackers have that unique distinction.

BTW - 'Mullet' is also a racially exclusive word, so don't even think about trying to hijack that little gem
I wonder when crackers are going to sue to have the name of those crunchy little snacks changed to something like crunchers or snappers. Mustn't leave out the republicans now, must we?

We have a fish species out here that has been called a squaw fish for ever. Of course it is now not PC to call it that, but I can't for the life of me remember what the new name is.

Ah, the contempt for "PC."

Y'know, it's kind of like this. Let's say you work with a guy named Michael. One day you call him "Mike," and he lets you know that he prefers to be Michael. I think we could all agree that only a pathetically belligerent and not-too-bright person would refuse to accede to this perfectly reasonable request. Yet for some reason when a group of people asks society to stop using terms that are offensive, and usually were designed to be deliberately offensive, many members of society get all ruffled.

Go figure.

I think that becomes a big problem especially with little local places like creeks and such as the article indicates. I'm not a huge proponent of PC talk per se, but even I have to admit that the places named 'Squaw Humping Bend' or whatnot could maybe do with a name change, lol.

And I did get a chuckle out of the one board member saying "But now I can't pronounce them".

Northern Ontario,
I have three friends (for real) named Michael......One of them doesn't like being called Mike...(also for real)..and he's really snarky about it.
Does that mean I can't use the name Mike for all of them?............That would be politically correct....non?

My name is André....should I put up a fuss if someone calls me Andy??

Yes... And sue someone.

I prefer Cliff. Don't like the full version. Had a friend who, when we first met, said his name was Art. So I always called him that, When his boys were young, I called him Art the Fart in front of them as a joke. He insisted on being called Arthur after that.

Has nothing to do with past wrongs. It has to do with the continued use of a derogatory term. Only a cracker wouldn't understand that.
