The power in politics is the power to control where tax dollars
flow to. Having a hand on the direction and timing as to when
the purse strings open would be lost by giving the taxpayers the
ability to control their own voice in spending their own tax money.

How is a politician suppose to influence people and set up a post
public life career without the power to control which wheels get
greased while they're still in office?

FYI Jim....I agree with your idea, but I can't see it happening. A
person spending their own tax dollars might purchase the things
that they really want or need, and actually stimulate the economy,
but how will that increase or even maintain the power of those in
Government?

The $3 000 000 000 000.00 US in American bailouts is $10 000 US for every man, woman, and child in the States. If the crisis is a crisis of consumers not spending, well, there are crazier ideas!

"From each according to his ability, to each $10 000.00 US"

Many moons ago when Hillary was still the frontrunner Presidential candidate she resurrected an old idea of giving every new born a 5000.00 dollar trust fund.

This idea has a lot of acceptance from Republicans and Democrats in that its populist communist appeal directly assists the people instead of where the pork goes nowadays.

Does the concentration of wealth reflect a real behavioral bell curve of the human race? Because the concentration of wealth seems to have the same proportions whether it be a democracy or dictatorship, capitalist society or socialist society.

Does ideology fall short of explaining this?

Lets clear something up. This isn't taxpayer money being loaned out. We don't have any. Taxes go to pay our debt and only our debt. Health, education, roads etc all have their own taxation forms that pay for those items and services. This fiat money is coming from the very banks that are supposed to be broke.

And the scam goes on and on and on.

Gov't is goofy. Small business employs many more people than corporations like GM and the like yet, where does the bailout money go as small businesses go poof? I haven't seen a fed gov't yet that wasn't pro big biz and screw the little guy..

When Russell Crowe was on the Tonight Show, he spoke for a few minutes about our current crisis and here's what he proposed instead of a $700 billion bail-out:

Give every United States citizen (all 300 million or so) 1 million dollars to spend as we please! It would be one heck of a lot cheaper and it would definitely stimulate the economy and probably create lots of jobs because I'm sure many of us would use some of the money to start new small businesses, purchase new cars etc . I was never even a particular fan of his but that is not a bad idea.

So if the point of the stimulus plan is to kickstart consumer demand, i.e. spending, then why not give every registered voter or taxpayer 30k dollars?

Probably because there just isn't that much money printed and you can't print more money than the total assets of the country have to back it up. That's approximately how this whole present boondoggle got started, houses, cars, wages etc. got to be worth money that just wasn't there. Of course any idiot (except politicians and disgustingly obscene C.E.O.s) could see the bubble wouldn't last.

I received an email today with pretty much the same plan. It said a bit more:
This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" This guy nailed it!

Dear President Obama,

Patriotic retirement:

There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them $1 million apiece severance with stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed..

3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

They could call this instant relief program the "Fifties Asset Relief Tender"...... or F.A.R.T. ....

It makes for a nice dream but of course it wouldn't work, paying people for nothign never does and when there's a money shortage it's not like you can just run the mint for another couple of hours.

Reagan and the two Bush's gave trillions in welfare to the corporations and it definitely did NOT work.

But the idea of giving that type of money to the people will be a lot smarter as people will spend the money and generate business. By contrast, corporate fat cats send their monies to shelters overseas and do not generate business or job creation.
