Study shows when 25% of a population takes antidepressants, they're probably being overprescribed

Over the past two decades, the use of antidepressants has skyrocketed. One in 10 Americans now takes an antidepressant medication; among women in their 40s and 50s, the figure is one in four.


Experts have offered numerous reasons. Depression is common, and economic struggles have added to our stress and anxiety. Television ads promote antidepressants, and insurance plans usually cover them, even while limiting talk therapy. But a recent study suggests another explanation: that the condition is being overdiagnosed on a remarkable scale.

No dummy...the two-thirds that were diagnosed incorrectly and on unnecessary meds because some head-shrinker got it wrong. Do you actually read anything. :lol:

The head-shrinkers are just doing what they are told to do, after all their vacations and memberships at the country club does require somebody getting saddled with some useless meds.

You really thing they can mess up 2/3 of patients that come in for help. Any other industry would see some doors getting closed and somebody goes to jail.

I think they are massivvely overprescribed, and I think they probably don't do much good either. Psychiatry is at the stage medicine was at when it was drilling holes in people's head to release evil spirits. And people are led to believe that there is something pathologically wrong with them by the media and advertising. fact is, if were software, every one of us would be too buggy to run.
