I have been following this sort of stuff for a while, and a great deal of it is true. Canadians by and large have sat back and alowed government after government to do as they please without so much as a peep in response. One of the major factors contributing to the ability of government to do so is the sheer disinterest of the Canadian voter as a whole, a few examples from my local area.
A man a few weeks ago asked me to vote liberal vote for Harper, i said don't you mean Conservative? He replied Harper is the leader of the Liberals isn't he?
I was told by a women that the candidate she voted for attended the local Theater and she thought that was nice, and she voted for him as a result. I asked what she new of his platform, she didn't know politically what he stood for!
Another woman told me she voted for a person because they had met the m once and they were really nice, again no idea what they stood for!
I could go on and on with examples and all are true, the problem is the vast majority of Canadians don't care unless it's Brittany shaving her head on the cover. And the Governement is left unchecked, the GST was forced through with 85% of the public opposed. There should have been riots on parliament hill, but like good uninterested sheep we bent over the barrel and took it. You don't have to look far to see how far removed the Government and law makers are from public opinion, it seems everday in almost every paper coast to coast you will find at least one example of it from any level of government.
Just take a tally of the rights you have LOST!
You must wear a seatbelt or be fined! Agree the are great but should not be in law!
You must wear a motorcylce helmet or be fined! Same as above, it's your head that will get squashed like a melon, and your choice. Not Big Brothers!
Car seats now mandatory, i agree they are helpfull. And provide a safer ride for children. But again the freedom to choose is gone.
Graduated licencing.... despite the reported stats, of less fatalities and serious injuries. WE were fine without it and it really smells of cash grab!
Smoker as much as i hate the habit and taking it outside solves most of the problem concerning 2nd hand smoke, are now having
there own homes considered as the next place to ban smoking. If you don't think this crosses a serious line, there is no hope for you!
If you die without a will instead of the next of kin taking over your estate the government does! If this isn't intruding into your families personal affairs i don't know what is.
As stated by bear the gun registry, which only targets legit law abiding citizens and ignores the criminals and there illegal guns.
It is illegal to protest on parliament hill. Whom guess they don't want to hear any bad vibes.
Most people in this country don't believe the stories that income tax is illegal, see below taken from here
http://www.prolognet.qc.ca/clyde/tax.htm
There are two specific sections of the B.N.A. Act that deal with the delegation of authority between the Federal and Provincial Governments. Sections 91 and 92 deal with authority for various types of taxation, who has authority to levy which taxes, and various other areas of jurisdiction.
The Act is very specific in its direction. The right to tax income, known as "direct" tax, was delegated to the provinces; and it was clearly indicated that any monies so raised must be raised provincially, and used for provincial purposes. The Federal Government was denied the right to levy income tax.
But the Supreme Court of Canada goes further. It states that no level or government is allowed to transfer its authority to another level of government, and if transfer were attempted by one level, it could not legally be accepted by another.
We get what we deserve as we don't stand up for oursleves!
