Once again, local-TV investigative reporters are showing up their national counterparts.

Recall that this summer the administration insisted the thousands of Central American illegal immigrants it was waving across the border would be put into deportation proceedings and those who did not qualify for asylum would be removed. You’d think, then, that there’d be bigshot D.C. journalists interested in finding out how many actually bothered to attend their immigration hearings.

You’d be wrong.

But the investigative unit at Houston’s KPRC, Channel 2, decided to ask. And when they didn’t get an answer, they persisted. And persisted. And finally got some answers.[…]

The story included this reaction from DHS:

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security reiterated all those caught crossing the border after Jan. 1 are a top priority to have their cases decided in immigration court and to track down those who’ve disappeared.

Since when is the duty of journalists from anywhere to follow up on immigration stories
or any story for that matter. If it is deemed newsworthy they will likely follow up if not
that is their decision. Personally outside of the boarder states I don't think too many
people really care. Its not water cooler discussion anymore. There are millions there
and it would cost more to remove them in the long run than to have them stay. I once
thought they should all be removed but have since changed my mind. The reason is it
is not economical and the mass migration would do little for America anyway.
more resources at the boarder are required but people don't want to pay taxes to support
a medicare system or social programs or even roads in some places let alone at the boarder.
If you want something done it costs money and money means taxes

They had their chances. If they're not responsible enough or don't care enough to show up then they probably aren't trustworthy enough to stay on as guests

Sadly Wolf... it will not matter. Even if they are caught down the road they will be released shortly after they are apprehended unless there is a felony involved.

Which is as it should be. Until Congress ponies up the cash to enforce more than a small fraction of illegal immigration cases, focussing on the felons only makes sense.

Don't forget any trade you don't need a license in is now awash. Prices aren't any cheaper... GCs just pocket the extra dough.
