EnCana is contracting the natives to drill for EnCana's oil. The drilling company gets paid to drill, that is all. They do not own, control, or profit from a single drop of oil they find. Only the oil company does. The rig company only owns rigs.

YEah, I'm not familiar with the mining industry, that's why I'm asking questions.

What I am familiar with however, is the difference between drilling rigs and oil companies.

Hubby worked for a drilling company, and now works for a completions company. They are separate entities, contracted for a flat rate, from the oil companies who hire them to get their oil out of the ground.

The Lakota and Dene Tha do not own any portion of EnCana. They own two drilling rigs which EnCana has contracted (their words). Their spin speak patting themselves on the back for hiring natives doesn't change the reality of what the article states.... they have contracted them for a project.

What is a Joint Venture? It's a PARTNERSHIP with EnCana, Lakota and the Tha Dene nation.

You can't cherry pick the English language and add new means to words.

No, it doesn't. Partner has many meanings. It can mean we're working together, or it can mean I actually own shares in your company. One is reality here, in EnCana's own words, and one is not.

EnCana has said they have contracted the Lakota Drilling company.
