➤ TWU: Spartans Settle for Split with Manitoba Bisons
Quick Summary
TWU: C. Farren (08:51 2nd) , J. Krahn (06:02 3rd)
MAN: C. Behun (02:43 1st) , D. Pasternak (05:09 1st) , J. Hooker (18:13 1st) , E. Alarie (01:01 2nd) , E. Alarie (10:05 3rd) , S. Bruce (15:59 3rd) , M. King (18:28 3rd)
Goal: TWU: Sommer (L) (13 shots, 10 saves), Audet (14 shots, 10 saves), Man: Thornton (36 shots, 34 saves)
The Bisons are now in a salvage mode, to hopefully build a foundation for 2025-26. In that regard, this solid win is a positive sign.
Line-up wise, the Bisons rotated goaltenders and started Kolby Thornton. He did a good job. However, as on Friday, Holy Trinity’s shot total looked somewhat inflated. Most faceoffs were in their end, and the territory and possession would have favoured the Bisons. Nevertheless, only goals against on 36 shots is a credible performance. Also, Riley Zimmerman replaced Josh Paulhus and added some grit.
For the Spartans, defenceman Jake Jurgeneit was injured late in Friday’s game so they played one man down. (Many teams who purchase plane tickets do not take extra players.) They also had two new players not listed on their line-up card. Mikhail Simchuk (from Ukraine) and Yuji Akimoto (from Japan). Maybe next year the floogates will open and Holy Trinity will be an international juggernaut.
There were plenty of notable statistics in this one. Dawson Pasternak had his 1st goal as a Bison (in his 4th game) and two assists, Riley Stotts had five assists, Skylar Bruce had a goal, two assists, and six PIMs, and Eric Allarie had his 4th and 5th goals of the season. Captain Hooker also notched his 11th goal of the season. The Bison powerplay went 4-for-4.
To make up for this split, the Bisons need to steal a couple points next weekend in Saskatown. That is a tall order, but you never know.

The T-irds bounced back nicely from Friday’s decisive loss to claim a decisive win in this one. This was a chippy game. The Bluegars were 2-for-9 on the PP, and UBC went 1-for-6. Of the 15 penalties, none were coincidental. This pulls UBC within 3 points of MRU and keeps their hopes of a 1st place finish alive.

For the Banjo-Cats, the good news is they led 1-0 after the 1st. Then came a 5-goal 2nd period for the Banjo-Mutts. Vince Loschiavo (his 9th & 10th) and Chantz Petruic (his 10th and 11th) each had two goals for the Mutts. There were just six minor penalties, surprisingly few for a rivalry game.

Bedrock U has been slipping. Looks like they will finish 3rd in the West, which means they would travel to either Alberta or Sask for the quarter-final round. They played two men short, so this is a challenging season for the Dinos. The Evil Monkeys are back to their normal race with Sask for 1st place.
