Trump has given the Republican party a chance to capture very non-traditional support. Perhaps for more than just this election if the employment picture strengthens over the next 4+ years. For example, a family friend is a union rep (yes some unions still exist) and I know he was rooting for Trump. No he wasn't in a rush to see minorities kicked out.
Precisely. As a result of civil rights progress, only a small percentage of Americans are actively white supremacists. It's simply that equality isn't a priority for them. So if something (like money) can be had for the price of a little race hate, it's a small price to pay.

He's not American either. But what resonated with him, and I suspect resonated across party lines and borders, was the promise to bring jobs back. Protectionism would be a boost to their own industry and own jobs.
If he thinks the 10,000-man factory is coming back, he's in for a big disappointment.

I disagree. The messages of the two campaigns, boiled down to two-word statements, were "Everything sucks" and "Everything's OK." Fearful people prefer the former message.

I disagree. The Democrats continually tried to demonize Trump and his supporters (basket of deplorables). The problem with the left is they try this with every Republican or Conservative politician. Trump is Hitler. Harper was Hitler. Romney was dangerous. Eventually people tune it out.

There is lots to be critical of Trump. His economic policies are pretty left wing...as are many of his supporters. They just don't like to identify themselves as such. Had the Democrats focused on his fiscal policies instead of his silly social and immigration ideas, they may have been able to get the teabaggers and other conservatives to abandon him in favour of independents. They screwed up. They thought labeling him a racist would scare people. It's easier to scare a teabagger that lives and breathes politics than joe citizen that only pays attention to politics for a week or two every other year

You do of course know that the U.S. is not a democracy but a republic .

And you will search in vain to find me calling myself any part of a Canadian "we."

It's OK that you don't understand the distinction.
And you won't see me use the phrase we when talking about America , it still doesn't stop me from having an opinion .

There is one factor that nobody recognizes, that being simply how ruling Parties tend to change every two terms. Not often do they last for three terms and almost never for more than three.

Once you get in, though, it's easy to stay here. The US is far easier to enter but you are not necessarily welcome to settle. There is considrable movement of illegal immigrants coming FROM the US and going INTO Canada. It isn't talked about much but it happens.

It's not that easy to stay in Canada.

I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to JLM. You can tell that by the fact that I quoted his post, and replied to it. Specifically, I was replying to the following:

With all due respect, T.P. I think she's had a major shock, as anatomically, I think she is human plus she may need an hour of sleep and then a few minutes to put her makeup on. I doubt if she's either stalling or crying. Have some patience, we're getting rid of her.
(Note bolded text.)

So, you either lost the plot, or never quite grasped it in the first place.

That's OK, I'm sure you're still very good at banging rocks together.

Unrealistic to expect $1.50/hr jobs to come back as $20+. However, if Trump gets protectionist on steel and convinces Congress to spend massively on infrastructure (I don't think it will as easy to get that support as some might think) then he can lock in the Pennsylvania support for the next election.

Agreed. I think the Trumpites are dreaming of change that isn't going to happen. Much like the Obamalamers didn't get the utopia they wanted. In four years, there will still be black folks and gays in the US. Trump will have tried to implement a left-wing economic agenda and been blocked by the Republicans. He will fail

Go f**k Yourself, not everyone is sophisticated!

learn to read what others actually write.

"expose the huge landslide for Trump that this great event likely was".:)

Most of them are recognized for their corruption long before three terms. (Congratulations- I think you recognized how the election was going to go, I originally did too but changed my mind the last two or three days:) Americans are pretty astute at what sh*t means anything, a lot of them aren't thin skinned.

One thing I do agree with Trump is that 11 millions (I assume this is a assumed number) illegal immigrants is a risk to the country. That's a huge number of people who've cut the line without going through any security vetting. As far as shipping them back, well it sounds like a tall order, but Trump is a different type of leader.

Actually your correct, I don't recall him making any sort of remarks or action that would indicate he's the reciprocity type! :))

There's nothing to worry about when it comes to immigration.

People are disproportionately concerned about it.
