In Canada, Income tax was supposed to be a temporary tax to finance the war. But temporary became permanent after the war was over. Surprise, surprise!
People who remembered when the income tax was started as a 'temporary' measure held a lot of resentment for the tax never being rescinded. However, those people are all dead now and nobody remembers and the government sure isn't going to remind us!

That was a terrible thing to say! And coming from a woman who accused Trump of all those 'phobics', it sure makes her look more so than Trump.
'Those people' certainly are Americans and entitled to their opinions and their right to vote for whomever they please.
Her message comes through loud and clear; 'Anybody who doesn't support ME is racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it'.
