sigh.. it's becoming tiresome.. and it's beneath me..

Congrats to Richard Weinberger of Victoria.. who won bronze in the grueling 10k open water swim, the last swimming event of these Olympics. He's 22 in a sport where you peak at 30. The winner was Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia.. a swimmer with a checkered past of unexpected results, he was not a favourite here, and of a positive doping test. He always seems to win, in the 10k and 1500, by overtaking in the closing stages of distance events in major meets, when all natural resources of energy are exhausted. Ryan Cochrane managed to hold off his late charge in the 1500 for the Silver in these Olympics, though. Just an observation, not an accusation. :)

It's going to be the U.S. versus Iran in a gold medal freestyle wrestling match here in a little while.

That is ... interesting.

Whoa....................is anyone watching the Spain vs Russia basketball game?? Spain has come from as much as 13 points behind to lead the 4th 55 to 49 with about 5 minutes left. Go Spain!

Make that 58 to 49, Spain just got a 3.

And Spain will advance to the Gold Medal round. Rock on Spain.........behind by 11 points at half-time and won the game by, I believe it was, 8 points.

Victoria, BC will be celebrating tonight as their Olympic swimmer Richard Weinberger just won Bronze in the 10 K marathon. Rock on Richard. :canada:

A great match it was -Burroughs has unbelievable speed though he is weak on the ground game, doesn't appear to work the cradle well, and got few back points. Still he makes up for these deficiencies through his great speed that keeps his opponents off balanced.

My ideal wrestler would have the speed of Burroughs, the great ability to do the single like John Smith, and the great ground work of Dan Gable. What a wrestler that would be!

That's a pretty old event isn't it?
Is it? I've never followed the summer Olympics as closely as I have this year. And even then, that's under great protest. The wife is going through some sort of midlife crisis where she's reminiscing about her youthful days as a track and field star and Captain of the girls field hockey team in high school, lol.

I think it goes way back. Heck I remember seeing it on ABCs Wide World of Sports.

just watched a 6ft 8in wrestler from bali defeat our 6ft 3in wrester, was like fighting with a giraffe.

he swung his leg right over top of the canadians head at times, with room to spare.

it would have been entertaining watching him wrestle with some of those 5ft 8 or 9in
opponants.
