do they realize there is a western conference also playing?
Yep, they do. Apparently, it was just a coincidence that the three are Eastern.

Don't feel too sad Talloola- all this adversity could prove positive for the Canucks- whoever their next opponent is we want them tired and a little disillusioned.
For the Cup final, I'll say Phoenix versus somebody.
Let's say Phoenix versus Philly or Phoenix versus Washington.
I would also add Pittsburgh, but of those three Eastern teams, one will have to lose in Round 2.
And now, it's time for a story from Alex Ovechkin.
"One time, I called Bruce Boudreau up at three in the morning and pretended to be Nick Backstrom.
"He said, 'Alex?' I said, 'No, it's me Nick Backstrom.' And then he said, 'Alex, I know it's you.' I said, 'Well you know wrong because it's me, Nick Backstrom.'
"He sighed with exasperation and asked, 'Okay Nick, what do you want?'
"I hung up fast, and laughed my a** off."
I don't think the Caps are strong enough in net or on the blueline. People get snowed into this whole "they won the Presidents Trophy thing" and some of the sports media in Pittsburgh is on about how the Pens never beat the Caps all season long, but a lot of those "losses" were in shootouts... something that doesn't exist in the post season. The Caps have the most dangerously skilled offensive lineup in the NHL but their back end is average at best. And right now, Ovechkin doesn't look like he's on his game against Montreal at all.
With Philly handling the Devils, I think the best team in the East is the Pens. They're not invincible but they're the best. The West on the other hand is still so wide open... and I think thats reflected in the little MVP list: some of the Eastern teams are in control of their series, with certain dominating players but you don't see that in the West right now.
So. all four series in the Eastern Conference could end in the next two days, but the Western Conference is going to take awhile. What, if any, does that say about the Conferences?
Western Conference is a little stronger.
Not necessarily stronger, but more evenly matched, for sure.
I'm not overly surprised about Montreal, but I am a bit disappointed. I'm glad to see Boston taking it to Buffalo. It's Miller Time, indeed. Surprised about NJ, though.

western conference is deeper in strength, hence the point
totals.
