Hockey is like a religion... so I predict that the winning team will be considered the saviours of mankind in whatever city they play for, at least a week or two.

But why did you not answer my question why, after an 80+ game season is it necessary to determine who the best team is.

For one, teams don't play nearly at the level as they do in the playoff's. Two, the eastern & western conferences don't play each other enough to determine who's best during the regular season, there can be great skill disparities between the two conferences at any given year.

I think san jose will rise to the occasion this season,
and not choke out as they did last two years.
I see a fiestiness there, even with thornton, who many times looks like a giraffe drifting around the ice, controlling the play, slowing things down, and maybe now
he realizes that doesn't work in the playoffs.

Of course I will go with vancouver in the west, but we have
so many injuries on the back end, so until those are sorted
out, and they all (but mitchell) return, that prediction is
full of holes.

I like phoenix too, very well coached team, with a nice
assortment of players, but no super stars, and they might
realize after this is over, they needed at least one of
those players to make this happen.

I like l.a., they have the ability, not sure if all of those
young guys have the mental ability to grind out a complete
playoff run.

I love detroit, datsyuk is a gem, and he makes that whole
team light up, they know what is needed to win, they have
the solid veteran presence as well as energetic young
players, but this will be their last kick at the can for
a while, so if they want it 'again', it has to be now.

Crosby will energize his team, and they could go all the
way again, even though they didn't look like world beaters
this year.

Washington has a mighty offensive team, but their goalies,
and their defense is there for the taking, but their
offense is so strong, they can do it, but I'm not an
ovetchkin fan, and don't think he will do it in the playoffs, he will feel the heat, and will be watched like
a hawk.

Every teams goalie has to play their best, be solid, don't
have to win games by themselves, but do their part.

Howard for detroit is looking great, but very young and
no one knows how he will react to playoff intensity.

Luongo will be fine, he knows what he has to too, how
to play at that level, the fans think he should be 'god'
in net, but he just needs to be solid and dependable, doesn't have to steal games.

There are no shoot outs in playoffs, and canucks were
fabulous throughout the season with all of their regulation
wins, that should help them in playoffs.

Henrik Sedin was tops in the NHL for 'regulation points',
best player in that catagorie in 14 years, last one to
be as good was Yagr.

Blah, blah, blah. I'll put up my $10 if you name your pick for the cup winner. Seems to me you can't get off the fence. If the Sens win you owe me $10. If your mystery team wins, I owe you $10. Put your money where your mouth is, chicken.

I'd bet him if he gives you 16 to 1 odds....since you have taken the Sens and he wants every other team.

What kind of attitude is that and what have I ever done to you? It's simple math Cannuck 50% chance yes, 50% chance no. Where have you been you old Curmudgeon? I was getting worried about you.

I'm a really happy camper. I want Washington to win really bad. We'll see.

Washington is not as good as it looks on paper- most of their season's games were against wimpy teams half a dozen of which wouldn't qualify for girl's highschool hockey teams out here in the West where most of the real men play hockey. 120 points for an E. Conference team is about equal to 80 points out here in the West. If Washington makes it as far as the fourth round it will only be because they are mostly playing wimpy teams.

i challenge that, philly is just a big team they are going to get rough but jersey is going to smoke them, once broduer gets a new style for the playoffs

I agree with four of those predictions, don't hold your breath on Ottawa, Philly or L.A., Detroit vs. Phoenix could go either way.

I agree with you that the Caps aren't as good as their stats make them look: their number of wins is inflated by their number of shootout wins, a situation where their individual talent shines, but is totally ignored in the playoffs. I don't see the Caps making it to the conference final, to be honest.

As for the West, gimme a break. Edmonton was so bad they made the Leafs look good this year, the Flames didn't burn at all between Christmas and the Olympics and Vancouver's lucky they don't have to play the Canadian Women's team or the girls would have ended Salo's career and stole the purses from the Sedins...

The Vancouver Canucks are going to drink from the cup in 2010 because the Olympic spirit will inspire the hometown boys and set every fibre of their beings on fire to bring the cup home!

The Olympic spirit seems to be alive and well in many sports, Alley - indoor fast-track biking; Gold for Canada, World Men's Curling - Gold for Canada. Heck we even won the Gold Medal for Beer. So your prediction just might have legs - let us hope.

GO CANUCKS GO!

Come on Wulfie, you know full well you are bullsh*tting about the Canucks. Edmonton sucked & Calgary I have no use for anyway. Montreal could conceivably take out WAsh. in the first round. As for Stanley Cup final, keep an eye on Phoenix.
