Over 120 anti-Trump Republicans discussing forming new political party

Do you think Trump will have enough support for that? I was surprised when Fox News turned their back on him, if you don’t have at least some part of ‘legitimate’ media on your side you’re pretty much hooped. He still has a lot of legal problems to deal with now that he doesn’t have the...

Trump claims his movement 'has only just begun' after acquittal in 2nd impeachment trial

Trump will never see a public office seat of any significance again. He didn’t have the numbers to win the election and after the mess at the Capitol building his support has declined big time. But it’s a safe bet he won’t go away. He will continue to be a lot of noise in the background until...

O'Toole Says He Will 'Align' With Biden

By energizing the dark fringes of the far right to come out and vote for him Trump has dealt Conservative politics a severe blow. Look how everyone is moving to the left just to put some distance between them and what’s left of Trump’s right.

Trudeau must fight for Keystone like he did for aluminum

Working in the area what I’ve been seeing since the price crash is lots of improvement on existing operations. Nothing new besides finishing Fort Hills.

I got that too, it seemed like his main concern was that right now it’s an industry surrounded by uncertainty. Not a good time for placing bets with a twenty year time-frame.

It’s politics. A politician will lean in the direction he/she thinks the votes will come from. Can’t get away from that.

Trudeau must fight for Keystone like he did for aluminum

In his letter announcing the withdrawal of the application for the Frontier project, the Teck CEO said it wasn’t Federal environmental regulations that prompted his decision, but the lack of them. Without a clear view of where the goalposts are, who wants to play?

They budgeted the project with oil at $80/bbl or higher. That was strike one. And yes, there was and is a reluctance from government to back projects of that magnitude given ever-increasing pressure from environmental groups.

Correction: Teck didn’t bail out of Fort Hills, the Frontier mine was their project and they walked away from that idea. Teck and Suncor have been increasing their shares of Fort Hills as other partners get cold feet. Royal Dutch Shell was another big departure, selling out to CNRL a couple...

Trudeau must fight for Keystone like he did for aluminum

I’m looking a little further down the road petros. In a global arena oilsands oil is more expensive than competitors’ products. Yes, SAGD operations show a lower production cost per barrel than mining operations, but current prices do not cover the cost of starting a new operation there...

Trudeau must fight for Keystone like he did for aluminum

The development of the Bakken shale deposits changed the landscape of North American oil significantly. Upgrading bitumen no longer made financial sense. Oil sands oil is expensive in comparison to other sources. They were, and still are, the first to feel the pinch when the market gets tight.

Yes, for some reason a bunch of upgraders on the drawing board or partly constructed got cancelled a few years back. Suncor had a couple of billion sunk into one by their Baseplant site when they pulled the plug on that one. I was at the Syncrude site just down the road at the time. New CEO...

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Husky does the blending for most of the producers in Alberta. I'll snoop around a bit when I have some time. Gotta get my ducks in a row to fly back to work tomorrow.

Trudeau must fight for Keystone like he did for aluminum

It was to me, but when I snooped around a bit I found that both WCS and WTI prices are often quoted together, the differential being a major sticking point to Canadian producers. It's my guess that when you see just the WTI price being quoted they aren't including WCS exports for some reason...

I never said they did. I said "mostly". Which just happens to be mostly oilsands products.

Excellent question, since a small portion of Canadian exports to the US fall into a grade anywhere near WTI. The closest we have in terms of quality is Canadian Light Sweet. In 2019 Canadian exports for light crude vs heavy crude from all sources were only 24% of total. So yeah, good question...

Trudeau must fight for Keystone like he did for aluminum

WCS is a heavy oil stream. The topic is the Keystone XL which carries WCS more than anything else. My suggestion was that Trudeau would be better spending his time fighting for TMX completion or a revival of Energy East than starting a scrap over Keystone XL. Keystone XL would just add to the...

Bite me farm boy Bitumen and synthetic crude (upgraded bitumen) account for most of our exports to the US by a huge margin, and that's what we're talking about here.

Amazon Forces Warehouse Workers into 10-Hour ‘Megacycle’ Shifts

I've heard they are going to be painting lines down the middle of the halls in government buildings, to offset the risk of injury from the people arriving late crashing into the people leaving early. 10 hours days are getting more and more attractive. It's not so "brutal" compared to an eight...
