Wow some people really don't get it. The current economic cris in the US comes from neoconservative deregulation of the American banking system:
No smart aleck ,you don't get it...............................................
In the past decade, as regulators discarded rules, shady mortgage banking companies, financed by the bluest-chip outfits on Wall Street, calculated that they could make a lot of money offering bait-and-switch mortgages to poor credit risks. Default and foreclosure rates would be greater, but higher profits would more than compensate for the risks. So the subprime mortgage industry, enabled by the big banks, invented amazing gimmicks. These included not just variable-rate mortgages, but mortgages that were initially interest only, mortgages with introductory teaser rates, mortgages with no down payment. No income verification required! No credit check! Subprime operators targeted people with horrific credit histories and families desperate for housing who could not afford the debt they were taking on. Last year, 60 percent of subprime loans required no meaningful documentation.[

......................that's that's just what the leftists ,'democrats ',the liberals, NDP'rs do, not the conservatives or their Republican brothers and sisters south of the 49th.Vote The CONSERVATIVE !

I would like to vote but being outside Canada for more than five consecutive years I don't think that I'm eligible to participate in the election .

So.... Which one is the truth?

Bush/Harper??? that doesn't happen on so many levels. 1st. Bush will only be in for another 2 months, niether Obama or McCain are anywhere near as right as bush. 2nd Harper is no where as near right as Bush..not even close.

What the hell is it with strategic voting anyways...If you like a party and their plateform..then vote for it...If you don't like any..then don't vote at all... Strategic voting is how Dion got in to create his mess in the Liberal party..why do the same federally? If you hate Harper but like Greens..go for it.. If you hate the ndp but like conservative..same vote for what you want..not what you don't want.

So ... other than ads that look suspiciously similar to Mike Harris fireside chats and an "I'm-a-nice-guy" family man act, what IS his platform? Surely you're not stupid enough to go out and vote for Harper just because he's Tory?

Da-aa-mn! It's going to be fun watching his wheels fall off in the debate....

The fireside chats are to combat the satan image set forth by the Liberals with nothing to back it up.

I don't vote for Harper....That's the first problem with our system..we only hear from leaders while having no direct vote for them anyways. I vote conservative because my local rep is fantastic.

His plateform is stay the course ..it is the plateform of just about every gov. in power including Martin and Jean-boy before him..It aint new.

Who exactly do you expect to shine in these debates if Harper is suppose to faulter? You do forget how good a chess player Harper is, he's had Dion in his hands for 2 years. I do admit Jack looks leader like but has no real chance of power.

Talking to Canadians like they are children the way Harper does in those ads in condescending beyond belief and I have yet to see a Lib ad with Satan in it.

Absolutely correct, people are just to lazy when it comes to knowing anything about their local candidate and it is the reason I will vote NDP this time around.

Stay the course isn't always the right thing to do....that isn't new either.

If I watch the debate I will look forward to the demise of Dion as he stumbles and fumbles his way through this thing. I do agree though, if Jack intends on making a run at the Official Opposition he must do it in the next few nights....we shall see.

I am not Liberal and NOBODY tells me what to think. My impression of the man is he is a manipulative narcissist who must be in control or out of there and that's why nothing will ever be accomplished during a Harper minority. I fear an agenda because I know his politics are heavily linked to the "Me first" brand of government Mike Harris Tories practiced. I think a psychiatrist would have a field day going through his head.

That's the way it should be done because, unless they are forced to toe a party line, your local rep is the guy who speaks for you (theoretically)

His plateform is stay the course ..it is the plateform of just about every gov. in power including Martin and Jean-boy before him..It aint new.

The world course changed. It's unrealistic to think you can set your sights on a goal and not have to slow down, speed up or face detours along the way.

Harper does not do well in situations where he isn't in complete control. His only saving grace is the debate questions are pre-planned. He can easily be clobbered by the unexpected. I think Layton will do best in the debate because he can think on his feet and does well with surprises. Personally, I would love to see a minority government with Layton in power. I'll be satisfied with Leader of the Opposition though.
