I would say that the Liberals have a pretty good record at paying down Conservative debt. In any case, that surplus, was more likely a residual result of the Liberals management than anything Harper did.

True on both counts..........except that Liberal surplus was partially a result of the GST.....that they promised to scrap..........and Trudeau did his part......and this is not the old PC party......and Harper is still in surplus........and the promises of the CPC add up to ONE TENTH the cost of Liberal promises.....

So, are the Libs gonna run us into deficit? Or are they going to radically raise taxes? Or are they just (as usual) lying through their teeth when they make promises?

It has to be one of the three.

(sigh)

Do you even read the replies?

Gill could not have been legally carrying the weapon, unless he was transporting it, trigger-locked, locked in a secure container, with the ammunition separate. Idiot Layton obviously knows nothing about the law, or about firearms. Which doesn't stop him from going on and on. No surprize there.

If your buddy dropped his piece in a bar, he was breaking sooooo many laws......and he is an arsehole.

You're interpreting the statement - without knowing the circumstances - to hear what you want to hear to manipulate it into what you want it to mean to serve your agenda ... and Layton is the problem?

No, he (Gill) could NOT have been carrying it legally - meaning he was in violation of the law in carrying it - whether the weapon was legally his (or even legal) or not.

Ohh ... buddy was made very aware that he was in the wrong. The cops *gasp!* seized his handguns before he even got to court. It's people like him who make it wrong for people like you or me to make a fast stop anywhere along the way on the way to or from the range.

Well, at least you learned how to spell it.

BTW, the guy that started deficit spending in this country was Trudeau.

Mulrooney was much worse in a number of ways, that's why I joined Reform.

Today's Conservative Party is not the old PCs.........funny how the Libs go on and on and on and on about how dangerously radically right the new CPC is, not at ALL like those nice old PCs.....then in the next breath try to hang Lyin' Brian's legacy on us........when more than half of us left the PCs BECAUSE of Brian's assinine ways....

Here's a new word for you to spell...
Consistency

Oh so now we are on about spelling again, weak......remember you asked for it.

Psst...it's spelled asinine.

At least I know what hypocrisy means.

Ah, so so you hide behind a party that had been in power 2 and half years.

Hilarious at best. Well the new Liberals under Cretien fixed the deficit problem left to him by Brian and Trudeau and handed that legacy to Harper and Jim Farty and.....blah blah blah blah blah.

Yippee, the government over taxed me, yippee.

Well as usual Colpy, as an intellectual elite you have once again provided me with a good laugh at the cons expense......thanks.;-)

You are really quick to call somebody a liar or a cheat. Perhaps we should look at the records of the two parties. The Liberal were put in an awful position by Mulroney, who is still a good buddy of Harper's. They inherited a 44 billion dollar deficit and over half a trillion dollar debt. In a couple years they got rid of the deficit and they even managed to pay down part of the debt. The CPC have cut the GST and reduced corporate taxes. When you cut taxes, you also have to cut services. Btw the interest on that debt is something around 30 billion dollars a year. Think of what that could buy if we didn't have that debt.

Juan, Chretien promised to dump the GST and renegotiate NAFTA to beat Mulrooney.....those two things were the cornerstones of his campaign.....he did neither.

That said, and as I said before, I wish the Harper gov't had kept the GST at full tax, cut spending (yes, I mean Culture spending, etc) to the bone, and used the money to pay down debt. Our debt is atrocious.

However, I hear constantly people yapping about Harper going into deficit when that has not happened......meanwhile the same people who go on about Harper's non-existent deficit are promising billions and billions and billions of new spending.

Now, unless math has changed recently, that means deficit spending, big new taxes, or they are lying. Which is it?

Typo....one point for Avro......

At least I know what hypocrisy means.

No, as you've proven over and over again.....no you don't know what it means. Minus 1 point for Avro.

Well isn't that what a surplus is Colpy?

Isn't that what the cons whined about when the libs had surpluses?

You are a joke.

Yippee, the government over taxed me, yippee.

Oh, Okay, I get it......

I think they are doing a damned good job of balancing the books.....1.7 billion is actually cutting it fairly close........better a small surplus than a small deficit.

If you want to be over taxed......there are three other national parties running besides the CPC.....take your pick. Any of them will gouge you to your heart's content.

BTW, what's with you today? Someone pee in your cornflakes?

I am confident that Dion knows what he is doing. Whatever else he may be, he is honest. I think he will pick up some points in the debate.
Btw where is Harper's plat form? As of yesterday I still hadn't seen it.

Oh, and when you walk into a wall of debt like Chretien did, how could he get rid of the GST?
And about the free trade agreement. Mulroney is often given credit for that agreement, but it was actually Reagan who pushed for the FTA.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.....

Unfortunately, it is really not that funny.....just arrogant.

This attitude is exactly why I loathe the Liberal Party of Canada........

They have not been bleessed by God with the One True Way....

Great forum pal, good day to you, I love the comment Shara Polin made the other day, that God is a conservative………

That is theological arrogance at it s best….

Good day to you LW, sorry I got worked up this morning watching Harper passing his carrot on the stick for music and furts................Sorry pal....
Soc, smarten up. If the liberals hand out 1 cent, its great, but if the conservatives hand out $$$$ its a carrot on a stick??? You obviously have been blindsided by liberal propaganda.
