Contrary to the claims of business groups, we already have a flat tax system.

The mild progressivity of the income tax system simply offsets the regressivity of other taxes like the GST, retail sales taxes and property taxes, which take their biggest bite, proportionally, from lower-income Canadians.

“By itself, the percentage share of the income tax paid by the rich is almost meaningless in assessing the fairness of the tax system,” he concludes.

-------------------------------------from #juan's post--------------------------------------------------

So let's compare.
The rich still pay more retail sales taxes.
They still pay more property taxes.

And the GST ?

There is a 5% tax on all products, except certain essentials such as groceries, residential rent, and medical services, and services such as financial services. The tax is levied on each sale

The rich still pay more there too.

This truth is a double edge sword. The truth is the rich do pay more in total on every category of every tax.

The truth also is how unequal societies in all the western democracies are be coming.

"Its my go*damn money, I can do whatever I want" attitude..by CEO.
wow, when did the world start to go so wrong? Are we seeing another rise of Roman Empire where aristocrats who "manage" their workers gets probably like 90% of their labour..and 10% for labourers who do the work? What's wrong with this country? Huh? Yeah sure, we are not bad as Roman Empire but isn't this the same attitude here? Those who manage {ex. CEO} gets the most and those who work gets the least? I won't strive for communistic ideals...but common sense, as seen through the graph shown up there, tells me that something is obviously wrong.
Wait, I forgot, most of our jobs are "exported at slave wage." OHHHH SO WE ARE AT STAGE WHERE ROMAN EMPIRE WAS BACK THEN
Great, just great.

We're (western civilization) every bit as bad as the Romans but to see that you need to take the spin off of things. Where perversion and corruption were the domain of the Roman elite it is all invasive in our civilization. You need only understand that we are all slaves now of an empire where only your wealth and influence guarantees true liberty - you can buy your way out or hire the best pleader. In any case the argument against slavery, that it was cheaper to pay wages than provide, still holds today. We are simply duped slaves. Until property tax is destroyed, as long as that yolk is hung around our necks forcing us to be dependent, we will never be nor can we be free. We are slaves to a system where freedom can only be secured by participating in it and rising up to be the biggest SOB possible. In a chaotic and anarchistic system such as ours, rights and privileges are the domain of the meanest and most powerful. The difficulty in knowing any of this is in realizing that the Roman slaves by and large were happy with their lot in life. There has always been and always will be a way for us, the bottom feeding filth on the floor of the elites play pen, to justify and spin our existence as something other than the oppressive thing it is. We are the plankton the elite feed on.

Very well put. I salute you.

I wonder about the average life span of a reasonably successful business with all its startup issues, its cycles of ups and down, its aging towards the end.

Human beings generally live longer than businesses do.

I wonder about this huge ineqality in the western democracies, let alone the developing countries.

The rich really do pay the bills (regardless of the burdensome ratios on the poor because as a percentage of collections the bottom 50 percent earners supply less than 5 percent of the bill), but this exposes such a lopsided statistic.

Perhaps we humans cannot even beat the ratios and stats that govern ant colonies.
Only a few get near the Queen. Only a certain percentage are soldiers. A certain percentage for scouts, workers, protectors, etc.

I wonder why Japanese CEOs take far less than American CEOs ?

Japanese CEO is something like an average of 50x the average worker
American CEO is something like an average of 400x the average worker.

Too lazy to look up the actual stats right now.

Let me rephraze that for you so it reflects reality. Some people who have lots of money work hard to earn

Poor little beave, dosen't want to work hard so he blames somone else for his poverty.

I'm living proof you can make a million starting with nothing, hard work and smart business moves will do it, all you have to do is try.

Well, I have no problem with rich people being rich. What I have a problem with is gov'ts that waste what we give them. Get rid of gov't waste and that'd be more pocketable money for us.

You can't get rid of the government waste while the rich run the government and depend on a large portion of that waste as income.

Such anger....I feel sorry for your tiny little life. I'm packing up to go to my cottage .....would you like to come for a BBQ and learn how to become a success or would you prefer to hang in your Moms basement blaming everone with money for your own failures?
