A ten kilo lusch (combination catfish and eel). Tough fighters, hard to kill but great eating. Just off western shore of the Ottawa river, 1966 if memory serves.

About five years ago when I was still running my boat, I caught a twenty four pound Spring salmon. That was my biggest catch in over thirty five years fishing unless you count the half ton sea lion I hooked near Gabriola Island........I didn't land it.....;-);-)

I might add that if I totaled up the weight of all the fish I caught while I had my various boats and totaled the cost of all the fuel and all the gear I bought, those fish would have cost roughly $450.00 per pound.......Not exactly a bargain.............:lol:

In the bush near Sudbury
Mine was a musky.... Hell, I was just testing a new Rapala's action too. The cast was toward shore and with needlenose pliers in hand I reeled in. Next, there was a splash along the riverbank and my line broke diagonally away.

Damn! Deadhead, I figured. The Burnt River is crazy with 'em. As long as it tracked in, I kept reeling. I din't want to lose another new lure to the bottom.

Then, I saw silver. Then ... Mister Musky broke the surface. It was on!

I leaned into his pull. With one foot braced against the deck, the other planted firmly into the keel, I became the towing bollard for this big old cedar strip boat.

This fish had incredible pull. It was still spring and we weren't quite a half mile above the dam. This lunker was dragging us upstream and fast enough to make waves!

People lined the bank (damn that highway) cheering as fish and I fought. Fishing is a personal thing - like a religion. Some things a man just likes his privacy to do. Worst part was, I knew I was going to be the source of a lot of laughter and the brunt of a lot of jokes if this line snaps and I end up on my butt somewhere amidships.

Finally, after a good half hour struggle - and almost beyond view from the road - Mister Musky drew alongside. He was too tired to fight the net. I was too tired to battle much more. Ron was still fresh enough to get a net around him. He was 41 inches in length, 22 in girth and weighed in at 22 lb. Not bad for a river where there aren't supposed to be any lunge.

This ain't a musky ... but it sure can lunge http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DLFe8xfgx24&feature=related
